Paris Museum Pass Just For Louvre?

I'll be in Paris at the end of September - I like the idea of the pass to by-pass long lines but I probably only have enough time to do the Louvre. The admission fee seems MUCH cheaper than the pass, would it make sense to not get the pass and perhaps be there soon as it opens (to avoid lines) and just pay the admission fee then?

Merci milles fois mes amis!!

I would not get the pass just for the Louvre. There are shorter lines or often no lines at all if you go to the entrance that is below ground, in the shopping mall. You can get there through the entrance on rue de Rivoli. Rick recommends this entrance in his Paris guide.

Can you purchase a single day ticket after going through the Rivoli entrance - or is that entrance only good if you already have the museum pass? Won't I still have to wait in line to purchase my single day ticket?

(You can buy single tickets in a machine but that requires a French bank card).

The long lines are at the security check. As above, if you enter at the Carousel, it is generally much faster. Then you walk thru the lower level mall to the Pyramid, where you buy tickets, check bags, etc. When I was there in June, around 1.30 and again around 7.30, on a Friday, there were no lines at the ticket counters.

Hi Joanne,

I just bought our passes for the Louvre through a ticket agent. I went to the official Louvre website which linked me directly with a ticket agent. I think that it was listed under admission or tickets or some such (at the top of the main page). I will receive them in the mail in less than 10 days. The total cost was only $32 US for 2 tickets with shipping. No worries-no lines :) Have a great trip. We are going in mid-September.

You do not need to wait in long lines,, I haven't in my last 7 visits,, so I can't imagine it was a fluke that I never found long lines using the entrance through the underground shopping mall ,,, off Rue Du Rivoli,, and buying ticket from machine. ( I used cash in machines,, they do not just accept bank cards!) .
I would never ,,ever , waste money I could spend on wine,, on a Musuem pass,, just for one Musuem,, LOL no way!( In fact,, my last 4 trips have been just fine without the MP.. , but then if one has only a short visit,, then perhaps getting as much into one or two days is important. I usually only schedule one musuem a day normally.
