We are interested in buying the Paris Museum Pass, as recommended in the wonderful Rick Steve's book on Paris. However, the book says that it is not good value to buy the Paris Museum Pass for kids as they have free entry to museums anyway. But I understand that kids only have free entry if they are EU citizens, (which we are not) does this mean we need to buy them a Paris Musuem pass? Thank you for your help!
Tracy, kids |UNDER 18 are free in most museums regardless of nationality, people under 26 must be EU citizens for free or reduced tariffs If your child looks close to 17-18 bring his/her id,, my 11 yr old and 13 yr old were never asked for id. Do not buy Museum pass for kids.
If you buy Paris Museum passes for the adults, you can skip the lines at many museums and your children under 18 enter with you. They don't need to stand in line either.
Most of the museums covered by the Paris Museum Pass are free for kids - but not all. Be sure to check the website to see if kids have to pay for any of the museums you wish to visit. And most but not all of the museums will allow a child to enter with a parent who has the pass. But some - such as Invalides/Army Museum - will require you to get in line and get the child a free ticket.
I agree with the advice above about under 18 usually get in free. And it is correct that a number of museums will also require a free ticket for those under 18. If your children look older than they are then take their passports with you or you will be waiting in the ticket line. This happened to us in Versailles where my sister and I had to go purchase tickets when the security person didn't believe we were under 18 and we didn't have the passport or French student ID to prove we were. However, the security person was nice and had us come back directly to see her and then let us in. no back to the line!
