My parents and I are thinki about buying the Paris Museum Pass. How does it work?? All I know is that you can get one for 2, 4 or 6 days and are avaiable to enter 60 museums. Does it work like the Roma Pass?? First 3 are free and walk to the head of the line? Or is it different? Can we use it at Versailles?? Thanks!!
I'm not sure how the Roma Pass works. The Paris Museum Pass doesn't allow you to bypass the entrance queue, but you skip the ticket line, which at the more popular monuments and museums, is usually much longer than the actual entrance line.
i just got back from france and both fiancée and i have the paris museum pass. we didn't wait in line anywhere. we bypass the regular line and stay in the museum pass or advance ticket holder line (100% of the time it's empty.) the only place we have to stay in a 30 minute line was at the paris notre dame summit check point. due to security reasons it says, no separate lines there. it does cover versailles and no line there either. totally worth it. highly recommended. i remember walking by the giant long line of people at the louvre and just walked right in from the pyramid entrance. same with the arc of triumph, versailles and l'orangerie.
Thank you Tom and Frank so much for the info!! We are definetly going to get them!!
also, if there is not separate line, unless it was noted on the pass booklet, just go up to the front, flash your pass, they will let you in front of everyone else. most of the time i pull it out while approaching, and the person watching the line would just signal me to go ahead of everyone.
Brendon. Here are some other cost saving tips. 1) Figure out which museums you want to see in advance. Although the Pass saves TIME and MONEY, the higher the number of days can be pretty pricey. If you can do it in 2 days, all the better. On the other hand, having the Pass allows you to pop in museums you might never have gone in otherwise! 2) Remember that Paris Museums usually close on Mondays or Tuesdays; so keep that in mind in planning your itinerary. 3) Unfortunately, the usually informative headsets in museums are an extra cost.
4) RS guidebooks have all the info you need to review possible museums to visit as well as the opening days and hours. Have a great time in Paris! Bobbie
The official website has a nice feature. You can select the museums you're interested in, and then print that out. It includes address, phone, metro stop, and hours/days of operation. http://en.parismuseumpass.com/
I always buy this pass when visiting Paris. Since you've already paid, you're more likely to make short museum visits and it's great for toilet stops.
We used this and I was thrilled with being able to skip the long lines, in fact, I think I would have purchased it for that feature alone, notwithstanding the fact that it saved on admission costs!
Brendon,
I'd get it if you're going to visit several of the places that it covers. Skipping the ticket line at the Louvre or Versailles alone justifies it for me. I usually get the 2 day pass, but you can do the math to decide.
My husband and I went to Paris about a year ago and immediately bought 6 day passes, because we like going to museums. They were well worth it because of the time and aggravation they saved especially at the Louvre. You do need to plan a bit to use them fully. If you don't plan to go to a museum or two a day then a shorter one would be perfectly adequate.
Don't buy a museum pass just to skip lines at the Louvre,, there are many good reasons to buy one, but that is not one of them,, in my last 7 or 8 visits to the Louvre i have never had a line wait issue by using alternate entrances,, and I have always gone between May and September, high tourist season. Really, buy it for any other reason but that,,
The pass is a great deal if you go to more than 3 places. There is one place that you do not get to skip ticket/que lines and that's to climb The Notre Dame tower so keep that in mind for planning purposes.
I think the museum pass is a great deal but it's not always super easy to use. At Versilles I tried to use it to skip a line and the staff were super unhelpful at pointing me towards what entry point I was supposed to use with it, I certainly didn't get to just get in. Never did find the right entrance for the pass, because my brother decided he only wanted to see the gardens anyway, which aren't covered by the pass. THAT SAID: it worked great everywhere else, and if you're visiting during a crowded time of year it's awesome. For the 2 day pass you save money if you visit more than 2 museums. Just be aware that a lot of the museums are huge and it's easy to get "museum-ed out"!
