Hey everyone, So I have decided that I will be buying the museum pass. I will arrive in Paris on a Thursday morning at 9:30 am and will be there Thursday thru Tuesday (leaving early tuesday morning).....at the end of December. Here is my question....I really want a 3 day pass but as we all know it comes in 2 and 4 days. Do you suggest buying the 2 or 4 day pass. I know that many places are closed on Monday and I arrive on Thursday so I'm torn.....any positive advise is welcomed. Thanks everyone, megan
It really depends how many museums you'll try to see. I think for most purposes for a trip of your length, you could do fine with the 2 day pass. BUT if you want to visit Versailles...get the 4 day pass. You really won't have time to visit Versailles and another museum on one day, so you'd only be left with 1 day for museums within Paris.
Make a list of which museums you are SURE you are seeing, see whether they are included on the pass, and figure out how many days that will take. Only then you can see if the pass saves money. The line-jumping feature of the pass is much less important in December, so I'd only get one if it would save money. Also remember, if there are only a few places you want to see, you can get advance tickets on line or at FNAC stores, which would also allow you to jump lines. I know Rick says that only foolish travelers don't get the pass, but I don't agree - particularly for December. Of my recent trips: once I had to run around a lot to make it pay off; once I used almost double its value; and once I didn't get it at all, as I was mostly seeing things not covered by it.
I am not a huge pass proponet,, it is useful and convenient for some people , and for some visits,, but in all my visits I have only used it once, and I just got the two day to avoid lines at Versailles( they used to see a train /Versailles combo ticket that was great, but they discontinued that , and they still hadn't gone on to selling Versailles tickets online like they do now) . I think if you really want to see alot of places and only have a short time, then the pass can be worth it, but I tend to slightly longer visits , so usually only plan to see one big site a day,, ( for instance I would schedule the Louvre for one day, and fill in time with cafes, wandering , visiting Tuilleries park etc,, so for that one day the pass would be wasted, plus of course line avoiding at Louvre is easy so no need to line skip there with pass)
I bought the 4-day pass so that I didn't have to cram everything into two days...plus was going to Versailles which I figured would take up all or most of one of the days. It was cost-effective for me, but what I liked best, in addition to skipping the line, was that I went into a lot of the smaller museums that I don't know that I would have paid for individually. It also allows for multiple entries, so if you don't want to spend all day at the Louvre but want to go several days in a row for a couple of hours, it's easy to do that. It saved a lot of decision-making on my part as well as time and money.
