Paris Museum Pass

If anyone can help me, I'd be very grateful.

We will be travelling with 2 adults, 3 children under 16 (and over 12), and one 10 year old.

We plan to visit the Louvre, Orsay Museum, Arc de Triomphe, and Versailles - so the museum pass looks like a good value for the adults. I especially like that it allows us to by pass the ticket line and save time - in particular at Versailles.

But how do we handle the children? The museum pass is not a good value for the children. So, do we buy the museum pass for the value only for the adults, but will still need to wait in line due to the children?

If anyone can explain how the museum pass and lines work, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks!

Kathy

Most museums provide free admission to those under 18...certainly, the four you mention do. Just bring the kids along with you, and proof of age if those closest to 16 look older. The pass won't allow you to avoid security lineups, but they do allow you to pass the normal ticket-purchasing lines at places like the Orsay and Versailles. At the Louvre, enter thru the underground shopping mall, not the big new pyramid outside....lineups from the mall are usually non-existent.

We had our twin 13 year old boys with us last week in Paris. They only had to get a ticket to enter the Arc de Triomphe, so we had to get in line there (but there really wasn't a line at all, it took just a few minutes). And at the Orangerie, we all had to pay 1,50 because they had a temporary exhibit in the basement. But other than that, they just went in with us and it was no big deal.

My husband and Iloved the Museum pass. Skipping to the head of the line is wonderful and you do save a lot.

Anyone know the best place to buy the pass once we arrive in CDG. At the airport, for example?

There's a tourist info kiosk at the airport, terminal 2, on the way to the exit to the train station. You can buy the pass and the metro ticket to Paris at the same time.

I have never seen a significant security line at any site covered by the Museum Pass, with the exception of the Arc de Triomphe... but that still wasn't bad compared to the ticket queue.

For me, the pass pays for itself in the line-skipping. The biggest illustration of this for me was the Centre Pompidou. The day I visited, the ticket queue stretched around the block, but the actual entrance queue was minimal. And for a museum I ended up not enjoying at all, I was glad I could just pop in and pop out, rather than investing all that time to buy the ticket.
