Paris Mens Clothes

Plan to be in Paris for month of July followed by two months in Germany, Switzerland, Benelux, Italy. Rather than schlepping clothes over there from the U.S. I though I would buy in Paris during the July sales. Would welcome suggestions on which stores or shops I might try for a wardrobe, mostly casual clothes and not too expensive for a guy in late 50s. Thanks

I'd say Galeries Lafayette and Au Printemps department stores, they're similar to Macy's. Bon Marche is another, but it's expensive, similar to Nordstrom/Bloomingdale's. There are other department stores, but they're cheaper quality, similar to Target. Don't know what price range/quality you're interested in. There's also lots of boutiques all over Paris and they can be a lot of fun.

Hello Tom, My husband loves Aigle - a branch of which is in St. Germain. The clothes aren't cheap but they are very well made - they remind me a bit of Eddie Bauer but nicer (not that Eddie Bauer isn't nice mind you!!). If you like more "outdoorsy" type apparel, another store to check out is Jack Wolfskin!
Have fun shopping!!

I can't remember if C&A carries men's clothes, but I think they do. They would be considered closer to a Kohl's type department store in terms of prices.

Yes - I can confirm that C&A carries nice clothes for men. It is much more reasonable in price than the Galleries Lafayette or le Printemps. If you do go to the "grands magasins" along Boulevard Haussmann, note that there's a huge C&A right across the street from le Printemps. There's also a large C&A on the rue de Rivoli (around the 100 block) where my husband (in his 50s) shops every time we're in Paris. There's lots of youth/fun stuff, but plenty of more age-appropriate choices too, all nicely on-trend and not pricey. Also in the same area along the rue de Rivoli you will find H&M, Quiksilver, Desigual and a bunch more clothing stores I can't remember off the top of my head. Lots of affordable "fast fashion" places are all packed into a short couple of blocks on the rue de Rivoli.

Even during July sales, Galeries Lafayettes and Printemps are quite expensive, you should rather go to H&M, Gap.
You can also find perfectly fine and pretty clothes at Monoprix, where the sales are always very interesting ( up to 80%). Also it's a store you don't find in any other country !

Just remember you'll be paying a premium to enjoy buying your clothes in Paris.

What Kim says is especially true of H&M and Gap... you can get the same clothes here for less.

Looks as if Galleries Lafayette is the ticket. It is close to where I am staying and has some very reasonable clothing, including the house brands, that will likely be discounted even more in July. Thanks for all your suggestions and happy travels
