We will be in Paris end of April/early May including May 1. We know it is a holiday & wonder what there is to do that day as most points of interest are closed. What do locals do to celebrate the holiday? Thanks
Mitch, the whole May 1st weekend in Paris will be crammed with more people than you can imagine -- especially if you try to get into any of the popular museums, restaurants, etc. This will be a good time to go to the less well-known/visited museums, etc. Avoid the Louvre and the d'Orsay at all costs! It might be a good time to wander through some of the parks or neighborhoods that you're interested in. If you want to go to specific restaurants over the weekend, be sure to check in advance to see if they will be open and make reservations early.
Good luck!
Many stores and restaurants are closed on May Day. Parisians take to the streets and there is quite a bit of street entertainment. Plan on wandering the main neighborhood streets and just taking it in.
