Paris - Les Halles

O.K. you Parisiens (or those that have been there recently), I need some input. Just how bad is the Les Halles area due to the construction. I am looking at an apartment on Rue Montorgueil and I think this street runs through the area. It's less expensive than some other apts I have looked at, and I'm thinking it's because of the disruption in the area.
Any information you can give me would help. ps: I don't have the exact address with me so I'm not sure where on Montorgueil it is located.

It's not the construction in the area that bothers me, it's the very noticeable increase in fully armed military/police personnel patrolling the streets, inside the mall, and metro stations in that area. It's less expensive alright, but not due to construction.

About the atmosphere in Les HallesThere has been a problem for years with suburban tough kids coming into Paris and hanging out around Les Halles. The two RER lines cross there. The patrols could have more to do with the election in May than true danger. The mall is still a popular spot for Parisians to do their shopping. Rue Montorgueil is north of Les Halles, gentrified, not a place where these kids have been hanging out. Now the question is if the apartment advertises itself as rue Montorgueil but is in fact closer to Les Halles. See if you can get the exact address. If it is the first arrondisement, it's closer to Les Halles. The second arrondisement is north of that. The bottom end of Montorgueil begins at the St. Eustache church which is at the western edge of Les Halles. If the apartment turns out to be a good deal, please pass it on to us.

Bets, There was no exact address but it said it was near the Etienne Marcel metro stop and it's in the 2nd e. It's a very small studio apt. Unfortunately, it won't work for me because it's not available for the time period that I need it.
Thanks for your info regarding Les Halles and Rue Montorgueil.
