Paris June 21st Music Fest

Hi

Just a heads up about the music festival in Paris (and all over) on June 21st night. It is light til about 11 pm. Last year we found ourselves walking for miles at the end of an exhausting week and day of traveling because the buses were not running their normal schedule. Subways were overstuffed with young black dressed Frenchies.

The route down St Germaine was closed. The driver wouldn't let us on the bus. The street was filled with people shoulder to shoulder and live music was everywhere. Could be a lot of fun if you have the energy. Long lines for food and expensive street vendors set up.

As tired as we were, with an 8 year old we suffered through the long long walk thinking the hotel was just ahead. Long lines for food and expensive street vendors.

So plan ahead and see if the routes you need will be closed.

A shame you couldn't get on buses,, but I don't think "Frenchies" is a nice turn of a phrase. Yank.

My husband and son enjoyed the Fete De La Music very much when they were there, but then , they enjoy walking, some people don't . Of course when travelling with a young child one does have to pay more attention to not overdoing the day and letting them get too exhausted. Paris is a big city .

to clarify-- it will not be June 21st this year as it falls on the summer equinox.

We all were exhausted. And perhaps should i have called them self-absorbed, aloof, unfriendly Parisians? Ha Loved the city, but the only persons who were friendly were the non-french who live there.

eh?

Wow,, jeff.. so many other posters here have found at the very least a few friendly Parisians,, so likely its just you who are so unpleasant to deal with and get what you give.

PS Nice to see your xenophobia and sterotyping does not just extend to the French.

No labels needed, your choice of words has provided those.

I reacted to "Frenchies" the same way Pat did, maybe because I live in Quebec. My heart bleeds for you, having to walk all the way back to your hotel, when those dreadful Parisian people (ominously all dressed in black! Well, they would be, wouldn't they, being Frenchies and all) took up all the space on the metro in their own city. Obviously, no one had told them you were in town.

P.S. eh?

True, if you aren't into crowds the Fete de la Musique or the free museum nights are not for you (or me). However, having lived as a working mom in Paris and then going back to visit, I can vouch that attitude begets attitude--just as in any fast-paced city. There is a special bond between people and respect that may be difficult to tap into when you are in overcrowded tourist areas. I hope your next trip is more fulfilling and you can be around ordinary Parisians, away from the tourist areas.

We were also in Calais, Bayeux Normandy, Mt. St. Michelle, a town called Vitre and another small town were we got lunch off the freeway along the way to Versailles. The people in Vitre were very nice, in spite of the attitude people on this board think i have.

French Parisians were the one with the attitude not the Parisians who were "immigrants" or "foreign nationals" or what ever is politically correct to call them. And it was a small slice of then in the tourist areas. But when the French (note i did not say Frenchie)departing ticketing agent at DeGaul airport asked us how we like the rude Parisians we figured it wasn't just us. He said oh, they are so rude.

Why is this other poster so sensitive? What's the diff.
Just telling folks about the music festival.

Jeff,, "this other poster",, do you mean me, or Norma,, neither of us thought your choice of words were very nice.

I always refer to Americans as Americans,, I do not call them Yanks( you were the exception to illustrate a point) .

I do not call the Japanese ,, Japs, nor the British Limeys, nor any other nationalities by nicknames. I was taught it was impolite. So, if you are refering to me,, that is why, I found your wording rude.

It is a bit interesting,, you were in about four or five other places, but only seemed to like the people in one town.

Jeff--that ticket agent was a riot. That's wry humor.
Vitre is a hidden treasure. Sounds like a good trip.
By the way, the rudest big city person I ever ran into was a bus driver on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.
