we are taking my 76yr old mother to Paris for 8 days for her first visit. Where is the best hotel/apartment location which is quaint, around wonderful cafes/markets and easy access around Paris?

I recommend Hotel de Lutece on Ile Saint Louis, the little island behind Notre Dame. It's a small, quaint, friendly neighborhood surrounded by the Seine river and beautiful views of Paris. It's in the heart of Paris with easy access to lots of great sites. The Hop on Hop off bus leaves from Notre Dame which is convenient. We love this hotel, love this neighborhood. The neighborhood is particularly good for older people and people with limited mobility.

I totally agree with Susan! Hotel Deux Iles (same hotel group) on the same street would also be a nice option.
