Paris in February

Just how cold does it get in Paris in February? I want to take my (young) 60-year-old mom; how many days do you suggest to hit the highlights?

I was thinking leaving on a Tuesday afternoon and arriving back in the US on Sunday afternoon. I have a 6 month old and to leave her with hubby for much longer than that is a recipe for disaster...:)

Thanks!

Thanks!

When you do the math, you will have 3 1/2 days in Paris. Is this enough? No, for most, but since you are leaving an infant at home, this might be the maximum length for you.

My sister and I went in February 2005. We left on a Tuesday and came back on Sunday. We had a great time.

We stayed in an apartment on the Rue Rosiers. It was a great apartment but it had one downside, the walls were thin, it was an old building, and we could hear everyone else in the building walking around, etc. But I would stay there again. The website is historicrentals.com. We have rented from them for years in New Orleans and it is a reputable company and you will like George, the owner.
The first day was sunny, the rest overcast to drizzly. I don't recall ever being really cold. I guess the worst was the day we went to the Eiffel Tower because we were out in the wind. We saw Notre Dame, St. Chappelle, the Louvre, the Orsay, Luxembourg Gardens, the Eiffel Tower and the flea market. We also spent a lot of time in the department stores and boutiques, even a pet store.
If you can stand a long email about it, I can let you know what our schedule was for sightseeing.

And I am going back in January 2008, leaving on Wednesday and returning on Monday.

In 2005 I took a leather jacket and reversible knee length coat and sweaters for layering. I also took silk long underwear but it was never cold enough to need it.

Thanks, Sherry! Sounds like the length of my trip is just right and that it won't be too cold. I just hope my mom can keep up! :)

I don't know how long into February it lasts, but January and part of February is when all the stores in Paris have things on sale. My sister has a grandaughter and she bought more stuff at these cute boutiques that I can't remember the name of. Maybe Natalee's or something like that. Bring an extra bag because you will want to bring the cute clothes back for your daughter.

Bob: When my sister and I decided to go to Paris for a long weekend I was really worried about going so far for such a short time period. It wasn't my first trip to Paris, but it was my sister's first trip and she loved it. I loved it too and now I am going back in 2008 for another long weekend in the off off season.

Camille -

This past winter was very mild here in Paris with temperatures unusually warm. 40 degrees is typical. There are a few things to note about this time of year here. The length of sunshine in a typical day is short over the winter months. Thus, the mornings stay cool until nearly noon and then the sun begins to go down near 16h00 or so. The key is to plan with layers. The Metro is heated only slightly and you will be able to get out of the cold. But I would always recommend a cafe. :o)

Besides the minimal crowds in February, there is one advanatage depending upon your arrival dates. Les Soldes run from January into February (roughly the 15th to 15th) . Great shopping everywhere with reduced prices !

The amount of days you are planning should be sufficient to reach all your planned destinations.
