Hello, I will be taking advantage of a trip to a conffrance in Cannes to stop in Paris on the way back for 3 days and see it for the first time (begining of Oct) I would love some advise on a few things (will be traveling alone): 1. Best way to travel to Paris from Cannes (Thursday) 2. Not too expensive Hotel/B&B/apt. in Paris to stay at (centered so I can mostly walk) 3. What NOT to miss if I only have two/three days in Paris (Thursday night - Monday) 4. good local places to eat at. I would appreciate the help... Thank you,
Avital
Unfortunately, September is a busy time for Paris. The best way to get from Cannes to Paris is by train, but cheap tickets will be sold out. That said, it's still cheaper than flying. Renting a car might be a cheaper option than taking the train at this late date, but it will take longer. You can mostly walk and take the metro from anywhere inside the 'ring road' in Paris. Getting an affordable hotel in the actual center of town with 3 days notice in September will not be super easy, but check out the Marais and Jardin Du Luxembourg areas. As for what not to miss, it depends entirely on your interests. Are you a history buff, art lover, foodie?
thank you both. I like it all. and I will be there from oct 11th so will that still be an issue as Sep? If i want to get the train tickets from Cannes to Paris in advance online, what site should I go to?
Thank you for the help it's much appreciated...
The best way to travel to Paris would be the TGV high speed train. TGV.com Cannes to Paris Gare de Leon takes 5H05m right now is showing fares of E55 and E71 You have to enter the UK as your home country or you get kicked to Raileurope. They are overpriced so stick with TGV, otherwise buy at station. For apts. in Paris look at: vacationinparis.com or cross-pollinate.com
Both are very easy to work with and you get a larger space for your $$$
I would suggest taking the train to Paris -- probably with a transfer in Marseilles. I am seeing around $150 and a five hour journey on Raileurope (and they have a markup) which does not seem bad for the distance covered. Door to door on a plane will take longer and be more subject to delays; might be cheaper but I doubt it. Rick Steve's Paris book is a great resource. We traveled very successfully with his France book in 2003 and 2010. On the latter trip we stayed at the hotel Kensington near Rue Cler and found the location and nearby cafes to be excellent. Must see on a first visit: Notre Dame, Musee D'Orsay, Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Arc D'Triomphe. And don't miss walking along the Seine. You should choose what appeals to you, and here too Rick's book is a great help. September is a big convention month in Paris, so you should book soon - try Rick's hotels and/or the booking.com site.
