Traveling to Paris for first time with our 21 and 13 year old children. Will be there three days then off to Spain. What are the must see sites and best place to stay? Do you recommend hotel? Apartment?
Maureen Best to buy Rick Steves France or Paris Guide Book first to get an idea of what to do and see . I think he has suggestions for what to see in 3 days. Your family would probably love the Fat Tire Bike Tours (day and evening tours). Gear what you do to what they like but introduce them to new things too. Think active. If you are arriving from the US, the first day will be a recovery day from your flight. Are you leaving for Barcelona on the third day? Calculate the hours in Paris and not traveling to make sure you don't plan too too much. Count on a 1/2 day going from place to place. Have fun! Bobbie
I could give you a spiel about getting a guide book and deciding what really matters to you personally, but I will cut to the chase and just give you a list that most would agree are sites that most people like to see when they visit Paris,, with a few interesting add ons for the younger folks. Eiffel Tower Notre Dame( the Towers in particular) A major museum, either the Louvre or Orsay A cruise up the Seine Champs Elysees( my least fave , but an area every one recognizes from movies etc The view from the top of the Arc Du Triomphe( I really do recommend this, you can see the ET to your right, Sacre Couer in distance to your left, and from opposite side the La Defence building. St Chapelle( best on a sunny day)
Invalids War Museum I also strongly recommend a Fat Tire Bike tour, the day or night one, super fun, and yes, you can do it, its easy and fun,, I am old and fat and managed just fine. And for the slightly macabre,, but never the less historically interesting,, the Catacombs. My two 14 yr old sons consider it a highlight of their trip to Paris, my 11 yr old daughter elected not to visit them at all. Different strokes.
For the first time in Paris and only 3 days I'd recommend a good hotel. A good staff can help orient you and give helpful tips. Where in Spain are you going?
