has anyone had a car in Paris? don't intend to use it there but need it before/after two nites in Paris. how horrific is the traffic? coming into the city from Normandy.....
I've driven in Paris before out of necessity, but I didn't stay there with the car. Paris has some of the worst traffic I have ever experienced in Europe (which sharply contrasts to the rest of the country). The only minor plus is that Paris is a little easier to navigate by car than a typical European city, but still much more difficult than a typical US or Canadian city.
Even if you need a car before and after, don't do it. One time I took my car in Paris and regretted it.
As you read about traffic you learn that it is a disaster. Parking is almost impossible and costly when you find it.
We always stay in the suburbs. The Metro is so easy to use and much faster and cheaper. What more do you expect?
There is underground parking at the Porte de Maillot for the Palais de Congres, at 27 euro for 24 hour parking. Google it. You could then take the metro to your hotel. Porte de Maillot is on the north western edge of Paris so you would not really need to enter the city proper, though it is a very busy area, nevertheless.
