i will be in paris for 6 nite with my daughter (15) her first time. which is better hotel or renting apartment?
I think a 15 year old would LOVE A Paris hotel, though you might prefer an apartment. Think which you would have preferred at 15.
It may depend upon your budget. I rented a Paris apt via www.vrbo.com when I went with my 2 children. The saving grace was having access to a kitchen. We were able to have breakfast easily and quickly at home (not just grab a croissant on the run) as well as lunch and dinner...not every day, but many days. I was charged $18 for a plate of pasta with nothing at all on it..at a modest bistro. After that I went to the grocery store and was able to cook pasta or a few other things, make a salad, etc, have milk, etc. I found the per night charge for the apt to be much less vs having to eat out every meal every day. But I've also stayed in a hotel with just my mom, and that was fine too---the hotel usually gives you more flexibility about day of arrival....apts sometimes will only rent Saturday to Saturday....have fun...what memories you two will have!

I have taken my 11 yr old dd to Paris, and on a seperate trip my 14 yr old son. Both times we stayed in hotels. Since you are only in Paris for 6 nights I would choose a hotel. Its all personal taste. I prefer not to cook on holiday, and I LIKE having the maid make up the room each day etc.. services most apartments do not provide.
Apartments are definately good for families,, but for only the two of you,, and for such a short visit,, why not choose a bit of pampering. Alot depends on what YOU want out of holiday too..
After renting apartments in Italy I would never travel any other way. It was great to make my own coffee and breakfast. Many apartments also have washers (dryers are a little more rare), so I didn't have to pack as many clothes. Also, it was great to have a place to sit and relax in the evening. We definitely felt like part of the neighborhood, more so than with a hotel. I have used vrbo.com and for a Paris apartment I used homeaway.com.
I have stayed both in a hotel and an apartment in Paris. I will choose an apartment any time. The hotel room was very small, and I think that is fairly typical. It was nice to have some room to spread out in the apartment, plus as others have said it is great to have a kitchen. Even if you don't plan to cook it is still nice to have one. Our apartment had a washer and dryer, which was good for light packing. I found it on VRBO. If you would like information on a one bedroom apartment in the Latin Quarter you can PM me. Have a great trip!
We have used lodgis.com for almost ten years. My husband and I are using it now for a six-night stay. We always stay in apartments. On the other hand, for a compromise Citadines is a chain of hotels with studios and one-bedrooms, each with kitchen facilities at a fairly reasonable price. You get the advantage of hotel personnel who can direct you to sites and an optional breakfasts in a dining room, while being able to decide if you want to cook a meal yourself or go out. One disadvantage of apartments is not being able to exchange info with other tourists. Also, you might need to buy some of the staples yourself, such as coffee, sugar, oil and vinegar, laundry powder--or decide if you want to use products left by previous renters.
The only reason I would choose an apartment would be traveling with my 3 young nephews as I won't mind about disturbing other guests or the hotel staff and it's definitely cheaper if you don't mind cooking. Otherwise if I am on holidays, i want to enjoy it in full and not have to worry about housekeeping. I would say with a 15 year old daughter I would rather go to an hotel. There is a great hotel that is very popular in Rick Steve's book: Hotel Relais Bosquet; this is a vey popular hotel that has completed major renovations and it is now amazingly beautiful and they have also 2 studios and an apartment for renting. http://www.hotel-paris-bosquet.com/
