I've been looking on-line at several 2 - 3 star hotels and B&Bs in Paris for a weekend stay. We are a family of four - two kids, one a teenager and we want to stay together. The majority of rooms are for 1 - 2 people. The triple rooms are for three people. There are a few "family" suites but these are too expensive for us. If we are willing to stay in a room advertised for 2 or 3, do the hotels seem to mind, is that generally permitted? Thanks.
Carolyn, It would be very unusual for a hotel in Paris (as well as most of Europe, as far as I have seen) to allow 4 people in a room that is advertised for 2 or 3.
How long are you staying 2, 3 or 4 nights and when are you going? An apt. might be a better choice for 4 persons. Some apts. -see: http://www.homelidays.co.uk- will rent for a weekend. Or, some hotels like Hotelformule1 45E per room, sleeps 3, bath down the hall or Etap, sleeps 3, en-suite, 55-65E per night might be worth a look.
Sometimes the rooms for 3 will accomodate a 4th person, upon request. I have stayed several times at the Hotel d'Argenson in the "Golden Triangle" of the 8th arrondissement. The 3-person rooms are very large and they will accomodate a 4th person. I haven't stayed there in many years, as that area of the 8th is a bit quiet and residential - not as conveniently located as other areas. But it is a beautiful old, family-run hotel. Their website is indicating the rate for the larger rooms as 100-144 euros. I'm not sure what you consider too expensive...
Carolyn, Here is a place to check out for 135€ a night for a quad room Hotel Marignan
Someone on trip advisor put together a very useful list of quad/family rooms in Paris. The link is
or if that doesn't work search on trip advisor for quad rooms in Paris. We had a nice, basic room at Hôtel La Louisiane, especially nice because it had two bedrooms and two bathrooms.
If budget is a concern I'd look for an appartment as well. They might have a minimum stay of 3 days or so but that could still work out for you.
Thank you, these are promising leads which I will investigate. VRBO has served us well but I hadn't thought of that site for a short-term stay.
