Paris hotel near Louve

Hi Rick, I'll be visiting Paris in early Sept 2013 and will be traveling alone. Want a hotel near Louve or Tour Eiffel in lower price range since I will be out and about the whole day. Can you recommend some so I can book early?
TIA. Elizabeth

Hi Elizabeth. Rick doesn't monitor this forum as far as we know. We're a bunch of volunteers and travel junkies who answer questions to help fellow travelers like you. You're booking pretty late with regard to when you'll be in Paris. I was there for a week last September and booked my hotels about 4 months in advance. September is a busy month in the city, not only for tourists but for trade shows and other things people have mentioned on this site. Places fill up fast. What is your budget per night for a hotel? It's hard to recommend something without knowing that.

Hi Sarah, Lower price range (2005 was 56e quoted from Rick Steve's best of Europe book)...so 56-100e/ night.

Near the Louvre for under 100 E at this very late date will be difficult. Try Booking.com.

I just checked Booking.com.. they have one for 100 E near the Louvre but you'll have to act fast. Otherwise, I'd suggest upping your budget or looking in less expensive neighborhoods.

If you are looking to book early for a trip to Paris, I hope you are going in Sept 2014. If your post is correct and you are actually going in early Sept 2013 and were looking for lower price range hotel near the Louve or Eiffel Tower, you should have booked 6 months ago. Try booking.com and pray someone else will cancel their reservations. Good luck and Happy travels

You might look at Hotel de l'Esperance. It's 3.5 km from the Louvre, in the 5th. 85 Euro when we inquired two months ago. It's not the Ritz, but has some good comments on this site and others, and reasonable, I thought.

Hi Elizabeth, If you go to Booking.com they list arrondissements (they refer to them as districts - but they are actually called "arrondissement" and with an "s" if plural, but the "t" and the "s" are silent)... my favorite arrondissements are the 4th and 5th for your budget... but the 3rd, 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 18th (I don't care for the 18th but many people do), and the 19th will all have more budget hotels. That doesn't mean there still aren't certain streets in some arrondissements that I would avoid, but overall they are all good. You can go to Google Earth Street View to see the actual street and area. My other criteria would be close to a Metro stop (if you plan to use the Metro) with 2 or more lines intersecting if possible. Booking.com has ratings and reviews, which are important to me when I choose a hotel. There's a wonderful hotel in the 15th that we really like called "Hotel de l'Avre" that is a 1/2 block from a great Metro stop where 3 lines intersect. It is 3-4 long blocks from the Eiffel Tower. Nice hotel with a lovely garden. Again, if you go to Booking.com and put in the name of this hotel it will have photos and reviews (it's highly rated). You can Google their name and contact them directly or go through Booking.com. Have you checked out the one I mentioned on Booking.com near the Louvre yet?

Elizabeth when we say its going to be tough to get first choice we aren't kidding, people don't realize that September is probably the month with the highest hotel occupancy rate.. its trade show and fashion week season and its folks book many months in advance.. What we are saying is don't get too picky, find clean and near a metro station. I have some great ideas, places I have stayed and within 90-120 euros. but I bet they are full now.. but hey you never know, try these, they are clean and centrally located, perfect for solo woman traveller too, Hotel St Pierre ( near the Sorbonne, block to river ) Hotel Diana, very central Hotel Place du la Louvre ( this one can be pricey, I have had it cheap but usually in August) Hotel Eugenie, so central you are within walking distance to tons, and near river and RER station from airport, etc.. may be higher price in September. If these are full try Hotel Des Mines, I have stayed here too, close to Luxembourg Gardens , about 15-20 min walk to river .

You are flat out of time. Go to Booking.com and make your reservations NOW! You can filter your search by price, location, star rating etc. but do it now, you are about three months late.

And, fwiw, don't worry too much about being close to the Louvre, ET, or whatever. If you're reasonably near a Metro stop you can go anywhere fast and cheap. Closer to the river is more convenient but also more expensive and probably full by now. Good luck and have a wonderful trip!

You can show up in Paris any day of the year and find a hotel in your price range somewhere. Maybe not with a quidebook presence, but it will be quite satisfactory and near a metro station (there's something like 250 of the suckers so it's hard to be far from one). Worst case, you'd have to ride twenty minutes or so to get into the heart of the city, but once there, just about everything is walkable. The far range of the general tourist area is from Notre Dame to either the Arc or the ET, which are both only about three miles and a pretty enjoyable walk. Don't let the high-panic, you-shoulda-gotten-a-reservation-last-year people rattle your cage. Use the search engines, get some ideas, and come back and ask. There's enough of us who, while we might not know the exact hotel, can guess what it's going to be like from the area in which it's located.

Ten years ago we stayed at the Hotel Tonic near the Louvre. Here is the website. Not sure if they have rooms....it's a boutique hotel, quiet, SMALL rooms. We loved the location.
