I'm staying with my mother & sister for 4 nights in Paris. Hotel Champ du Mars sounded reasonable but is fully booked. Now I'm reading that the Marais area may be a better choice. Any suggestions for reasonably priced hotel that is still charming? Hoping to pay less than $100US or less, per person, per night. Thank you.
Hi Lysbeth, just a few thoughts. Hotel rooms in Paris are generally priced per room, not per person, and with three of you in a room , you must book a triple room, as french occupancy laws are quite strict . Rooms are generally very small compared to North American standards( unless you can afford a very expensive hotel).
I will suggest two hotels that I have stayed in,, one more charming then the other, but both were very clean, well located, had a/c and mini fridge( I always like to have that to store cold drinks and snacks in ) . Hotel Eugenie- rooms are basic( but as I said will have english tv. a/c and mini fridge) but location is very central, I ask for a room facing inner courtyard as they are quieter, but have had a street facing one and it was fine( double paned glass etc). It is technically in the 6th, but its right on the border of the 5th, and in a very touristy but fun area) Metro and RER very close by, as is river, and you can walk to Notre Dame and Cluny in minutes. Hotel Des Grand Hommes in in the quieter part of the 5th, facing the Pantheon, rooms are decorated with some charm, but were small, had all same amenties as other hotel also. Near metro and RER stop also. Close to Luxembourg Gardens, and about 10-15 minute walk to Notre Dame , Latin Quarter, river etc. Late June is expensive month for hotels so rates may be too high, but I also have stayed at and loved the location of the Hotel Le Regent( on Rue Dauphine), get the deluxe rooms, the standards are too small. All same amenties and in charming area in the 6th, bit more expensive then other two places.
