We are looking for a hotel in Paris that would offer us a hotel room for my wife and I and are two young children ages 8 and 10. Any suggestions?
I've booked a room for a family of four (kids ages 7 & 11) in a hotel recommended in R. Steves Guide to Paris. We haven't left yet, so I can't give my personal opinion; but the hotel intrigues me. It's the Hotel Dieu which is on the 6th floor of the oldest working hospital in France, right next to Notre Dame Cathedral on Ile de la Cite (the only hotel on Ile de la Cite). The rooms look large and clean & pleasant. The location, I think, can't be beat. It was very reasonable too. Check out their website if it interests you www.hotel-hospitel.com
I recommend you search on trip advisor for a list that someone has put together of Paris hotels that offer quad or family rooms. It is a long list nicely divided by arrondissement of the hotels the trip advisor poster has researched. I'm sure the list isn't totally comprehensive or perfect, but I found it very helpful. If it is important to you, you will need to distinguish between quad rooms that have two double beds, and those with three beds (usually one double and two smaller beds). When I emailed hotels I was very specific to say what kind of bed arrangement we needed.
Chris:
Try Hotel Repbulique. The hotel is clean and has reasonably priced family rooms. One double bed in one room and a small attached room with two twin beds. We stayed there a couple of years ago and it worked well. The kids loved the dinky tiny elevator (roughly the size of a coffin!). The hotel has a website - just google it. There are many nearby bars, restuarants, bakeries, etc. Have fun.
How long will you be there? If it is for more than a few days you might want to consider an apartment rental. It will give you much more space and is usually less expensive than a hotel. Another nice thing about an apartment is the ability to not have to go out for every meal, so it saves money in that way too.
Andrea is right. An apartment is ideal and they usually have a washer/dryer. I recommend the rental agency at parisattitude.com
Hi Chris, Thanks to Kathy I found the list of Paris hotels for four. It's at this link:
We are also going to Paris in August with kids ages 9 and 12. Good luck to you!
Chris, ifc you are going to be staying a few days, make sure that you check out renting an apt. Two weeks ago we returned from France. We rented an apt in Paris, and it was wonderful.
We have rented apts in Lisbon, Tavira Portugal, Rome, Paris, Sorrento, Italy, etc., using VRBO.com and Homelidays.com with excellent results.
I was in Paris in May and rented an apartment from VacationinParis.com. This is the second time I rented from them and they are excellent. The apartment provided more space, a kitchen and at a lower cost than a hotel.
We're going in July with two kids (12 and 14) and chose to rent an apartment for 5 nights rather than cram ourselves into a hotel room. We did this for several reasons. The cost of breakfast at many of the hotels we considered was 10-15 euros per person per day. We're in a strange city, jet lagged and tired from walking. It makes sense to give everyone a little space to unwind. The apartment has a washer and dryer. We don't have to be out of the room for a housekeper because there is none. We can prepare a meal in the kitchen using goodies from a farmer's market if we don't feel like eating out on a particular day.
We have rented our apt from ParisAddress, which was highly recommended by a friend who used them last summer.
