I'm looking for a nice but simple hotel between la gare Montparnasse and le jardin du Luxembourg, preferably two star but rated either $ or $$ at most. We're a group of ten people looking for the beginning of April. Any suggestions? Thanks.

In 2009 we stayed at a great 2 star hotel just a few minutes walk from the Montparnasse Train Station. The Hotel Apollon Montparnasse - please check it out. The Pernety Metro station is literally at the end of the block. You come up out of the station - turn to your left - go to the end of the block and there it is. This is a great neighbourhood - we walked to Luxembourg Gardens a few times. Loved the area and the hotel - the staff could not have been more helpful.

I would go to tripadvisor.com right away to see what might be available for 10 in April. There is a section where you can check which areas you are interested, such as Luxembourg. Once you have the name of the hotel, you could search for the site directly rather than go through a third party.

A few years ago we stayed at the Hotel Unic Renoir on the rue du Montparnasse. It is not fancy, but it was nice and they had some larger rooms - we were able to sleep a family of 4 in one room. The prices are good and it is in a location that is close to la gare and also the jardin. It is on a lively street with many creperies. We enjoyed our brief stay there.
