Looking for a Paris hotel/apartment with a fantastic Parisian view. Could be of a landmark such as the Eiffel Tower/ Notre Dame de Paris, or of the tops of hundreds of other buildings looking out over Paris such as up in the Montmartre area. Ideas? Thanks!
Check out this one: http://www.parisbestlodge.com/quai.html And this one: http://www.paris-view-sur-seine.blogspot.com/ Haven't stayed at either one but have them bookmarked for our next visit.
Realistically you cannot expect too much "view". Central Paris is the product of massive urban renewal, as we call it now, during the 19th Century. Baron Haussmann, under Napoleon III, knocked a great deal of the central area down and rebuilt according to a hub-and-spoke plan that included strict limits on height, which continue in some form until today. That means you will not find high rooms with a panoramic view since everything is more-or-less the same height. You might go up to the hills on the edges of the controlled area, Montparnasse or Monmartre, or find a building facing the Seine. But most outward-looking rooms can expect to catch noise from the street below. Maybe you will discover an inner courtyard where the spire of the Eiffel can be glimpsed across the rooftops, sparkling in the evening. Your longing for the romantic may be better filled in pubic spaces such as the parks, or just sitting on a cafe terrace. Bon voyage.
Have a look at the Hotel de L'Empereur at 2 Rue Chevert in the seventh . Across the street is Les Invalides and some of the rooms have great views of the beautiful golden dome .
For an apartment check vrbo #5967. You have to climb some stairs to get that view, but the apartment is fantastic and it's worth it. I liked to think of it as just being a way to work off some of that good French food!! Disclaimer - I was there in the winter so the trees were bare. I can't vouch for the view with the trees leafed out.
Some of the rooms at the Duquesne Eiffel have a view of the Eiffel Tower. It is a lovely small hotel with a wonderful staff. The first night I awoke around 1a.m. and the tower was twinkling. It was amazing.
Oh, yes, thank you for these leads! I had forgotten how hilly the area by the University/ Jardin des Plantes/ Zoo is. And I suppose most places facing La Tour Eiffel would have a great view too. I visited Hotel Esmarelda next to Notre Dame de Paris... remember "Let's make a deal"?... their rooms are like that (For 150 euros/ night we'll assign you to either this fabulous room with a view, or what used to be the closet between rooms which is now your hotel room! But you won't know until you get here!).
We stayed at Duquesne Eiffel a couple years ago, booked an upper floor. The View of the ET sparkling on the hour was marvelous and the entire tower was lighted at sunset. The sparkles ended at 0100 but seeing them from our bed was extra special.....
We rented an apartment from Paris Vacation Apartments and our view was amazing. Overlooked the parks at Places des Voges. And the apartment was gorgeous too.
