Paris hotel/apartment in the Montmartre/Sacre-Coeur Area?

My husband and I are living in Germany for 3 years and plan to visit Paris many times. The first time we hope will be some time in November 2008. I have seen recommendations to go to VRBO for apartment rentals. There are hundreds of possibilites. Has anyone stayed in one that they could recommend? Would love a view but not a deal breaker.

If anyone has specific recomendations for apartment rentals or hotels around the 130 Euro per night range, we would appreciate it.

A question about apartment rentals - are they generally kept pretty clean? My husband has some pretty bad dust alelrgies so we have to be careful.

Thank you.

We're renting an apartment for a few days in January. We haven't stayed there yet but we thought that the location was ideal (Ile Saint Louis) and that the price was good (110 Euro per night for January dates.) The owner has been very responsive to our questions. It has lots of great comments made by people who stayed there in the past. If you go to the VRBO website it's VRBO #94988. This apartment has a few dates open for November so it might not be available for the dates you need and it's not in the location that you mentioned. Can't comment on the cleanliness yet...Have a great time in Paris!

Earlier this year we had rented an apartment in Montmartre from a friend. It tuned out to be extremely unsuitable, as well as uncomfortable & sparsely furnished, so we left after 2 days and found the Hotel Caravelle, quite close by and a very nice 3 star on rue des Martyrs. Google it & check it out. Price for a double is about 105 euro.

Are you limiting yourself to the Montemarte area, if so why??

There are many nice areas, and many are far more central to sites and walking around.

Check out ST Germain area, our fave.

As for dust allergies, well its going to be hit and miss, every apartment is different and likely cleaned by different companies or people. Suggest( I guess you know this) trying to get wood floors. But, I will warn you, everything is pretty old , so furniture and drapes are often dusty .

Perhaps consider a more modern hotel that has been recently renovated. Good Luck.

Nancie,

I've stayed twice in the same studio apartment in Montmartre and found it very clean and comfortable both times- and a great price- 105 euros/night. I'm just about to return to Paris for a few days and will be staying there again. The same company I believe has several apartments in the same neighborhood and are always very helpful and nice

Thanks for the helpful messages - I haven't been able to get online for a few days or I would have replied sooner.

I'm not necessarily limiting myself to this area but have been to Paris once before and missed this whole area. Also, there are so many areas in Paris that it's a bit overwhelming so thought I'd try to narrow it down. If anyone has some great recommendations in other areas, I'd love to hear those too. I appreciate the feedback I've gotten so far.

We were going to go originally this 4 day weekend (Nov 8-11) but had a dog sitter fall through so had to cancel. In a way this is good as I have more time to gather information.

Thanks again for any and all recommendations.

Nancie

I think with the dust allergies, that I would be looking at one of the chain hotels that has hypo-allergenic rooms. This is becoming quite common and shouldn't cost you an arm and a leg either. Just for his own comfort. Look on the HRS website. If they have those kind of rooms, believe me they advertise it.
