Paris Hostel?

Has anyone stayed at a clean and well-situated for sight-seeing hostel in Paris. I am looking for my daughter and her cousin (college age)for the end of May. I thought about staying in one in Paris 10 years ago but when I got there it was horrid, dirty and a little scary looking. I don't even remember where it was, as it was my first trip to Europe. I stayed in a number of nice ones since then, but not in Paris. I actually have graduated to B&B's and agriturismos, but that was all I could afford then. Thanks for your time.

Hi Susan, I have not stayed in a hostel in Paris, even when I travelled around Europe for months at at time when I was 23 , I( and my friend) wanted our own bathroom, LOL,

We were able to find some cheap rooms that fit the bill for being clean and safe( our criteria always) .
What budget are you looking at for the girls, in euros. ?
There is a cheapo hotel good location called Hotel Esmeralda I think , girls might like that google it.

Well Susan, due to my insomnia , I have searched out a few ideas for you.
Hotel des Carmes, itis the 5th arrondissmont( very central, Latin Quarter) and costs about 87 euros a night, remember that is split, so only 43.5 euros for your daughter.

Hotel Paris-Rome Int hteh 9th, 80 euros for the room.
Hotel Royal Aboukir , 85 euros a room, 2nd arr.

Hotel du Marais, 85 euros per room, 3rd arr.
Hotel Au Royal Cardinal, 5th arrondissmont , 95-105 euros.

All rates are listed per room, not person. All rooms reviewed as clean and safe.

Look each on up ,, they all had web sites. Good luck.

Note central paris arrondissmonts most popular with frist timers are the lower number ones as they get bigger as they wind away from city center. 1, 2, 3,4, 5,6,7,9 all seem great . My fave would be 4th 5th or 6th.

You can't beat any of the three MIJE hostels in the Marais. They are renovated 17th-century private mansions and are described as "the best budget accommodations in Paris" in both the Rick Steves and Lonely Planet Paris guidebooks. Even though many school groups stay there, they are open to people of all ages. See www.mije.com.

Another hostel that gets good reviews is Le Village Hostel in Montmartre. See www.villagehostel.fr.

I would strongly endorse Auberge Internationale des Jeunes in the 11th arrondissement. (website)

It has a five language web site with prices and directions by metro from every major train station in Paris AND airports. 17 euros/night during peak travel season.

Since I've only stayed at this one hostel, I cannot compare it with others in Paris or Europe. But after hearing all the hostel horror stories, I was pleasantly suprised and wouldn't mind staying here again.

Since this forum has a character limit, I direct you to my detailed evaluation of the hostel here.

Please let me know what your daughters impression is of where she ends up staying. I will be travelling in May/June.
