Paris, France Lodging

My husband and I are going to be in Paris at the end of June. What is a good area to stay in? Can anyone recommend a clean, reasonably priced hotel? Should I be concerned about bedbugs??

Find an area that looks interesting to you (make sure you're not out in the boonies) . Start with say, the Left Bank. Do some web research and check out comments re the hotel (Trip Adviser etc.). What's a reasonable price for you may not be for me. Keep in mind that minimizing your travel time should factor heavily into your choice of a hotel. End of June and into July you'll probably want air-conditioning as well as the heat is compounded by humid air. This whole bed bug scare is, well, a scare. I've never found bed bugs but I do do a visual check (look for little spots of brown blood on the mattress itself). Remember you are going at the height of the tourist season for Americans so prices are up. Paris, London, Venice etc. are all pretty pricey in a decent location but you save on time/transportation costs. And...you're in Paris!!!

I'd recommend staying in the 4th (Marais & Ile Saint Louis), the 5th (Latin Quarter) or the 6th arrondissement. It's the most central area of Paris, and all wonderful, especially the closer to the river you are. I've stayed in many hotels, and recommend them all: Hotel St. Jacques, Hotel du Pantheon, Hotel des Grandes Ecoles, Hotel de Lutece (my favorite) and Hotel de L'Avre (in the 15th). I think all the recommendations in the RS Paris guide are good. We've also rented apartments which we enjoyed very much.

Nancy There are several recent threads on Paris lodging. You might want to check those out . Just backtrack on the dates a week or two. Or use the search feature described at the top of the Helpline page. You will find lots of suggestions. Bobbie
