I have been going back and forth to Paris for work, and will be getting some free weekends coming up. I would like to get to D-Day beaches (day trip). I know it is not easy - any recommendations on best way to get there (via public transportation).

Either rent a car, or take an organized tour. The beaches are not readily accessible by public transportation and sit spread out over a fairly large area.
Or you could take a train to Bayeux, stay the night and take a pre-arranged tour with Battlebus Tours!
Drive. Nothing else works as well.

We just took a day trip with Gray Line/Cityrama tours to Normandy. It was great, even though it rained. We had a van, instead of a tour bus, which made it more personal. There were only five of us with the driver. Very moving experience.
