Paris for the holidays

Any tips for staying in Paris Dec. 27-Jan. 9? Are most sites open? How to the French celebrate New Year's?

I was in Paris for NY's a few years ago also, was told the same thing about fireworks by the Eiffel, and there were a few but nothing to talk about. Luckily the 3 of us already had 2 bottles of champagne in us, or it would have been worse. :)

Yes, most sites are open, except maybe on Jan. 1st. We were there almost the exact same dates this last New Years. We were told by many people that there would be fireworks over the Eiffel Tower. Not wanting to deal with the huge crowds we were told about that gather we positioned ourselves on the Pont Neuf bridge. We were joined by many others, but alas, no fireworks. I don't know if it was a budget saving thing or if we were just misinformed. Some people had brought personal fireworks to the bridge and were setting them off. People celebrated with their champagne, etc.

Maybe they just tell the tourists there will be fireworks to see how many suckers show up!
