can anyone recommend a fun flea market to visit in Paris?
We really love the Porte des. Vanves flea market. Metro porte des Vanves. It is on Saturday and Sunday...there is something for everyone. I collect old french hand-colored postcards, my husband collects photographic equipment and old photos, and advertising signs. They have paintings, also. Go early.
I second this one too! http://www.fleamarketinsiders.52ndwest.com/a-sunday-morning-at-the-porte-de-vanves-flea-market-paris-france/
We went in Sept 2011 and it went on and on and on. I actually got a neck-ache from turning my head side to side for hours. Bought a wooden box and a waiter's knife/corkscrew from a very sweet couple. There is ONE bathroom... yikes, the self-cleaning free ones... but lots of restaurants one street away... had Chinese lunch in Paris, who would have thunk it? Very easy to get to, and tucked in a quiet residential/school street. If you go, there might be a surly man cranking a hurdy-gurdy... fun to hear such joyful music. Definatley will return to this one next time we're in Paris on Sunday!
Porte des. Vanves flea market!!! By a long shot. BEST TO GO ON SATURDAY. We have been two years in a row in the fall. It's the most affordable (they will deal with you if you are polite and buy multiples) for vintage and more of what you would think a "real paris" flea market would be. I would say the most fun! Puces St-Ouen on the north is interesting but not as affordable - lots of the dealers are snotty. Never tell them you are from US....tell them Canada and, by all means, be polite and respectful even if you aren't asking for a deal. If you go on Sunday, don't go early as most of them don't get there till around 11am. You will have plenty of time to go to Marche d'Aligre on rue du Faubourg St. Antione to enjoy pastry, coffee, fruit and the small market there on Sunday then off to Puces St. Ouen if you want to. We found many of the items here to be broken, fake or just too expensive, but it's an interesting environment.
I just bought the 2nd ed of Markets of Paris by Dixon Long and Marjorie Williams. I already had the first ed, but this one has additional info. All kinds of markets are included. My personal favorite is an arts & crafts market held Sat in one area & Sun in another area. If interested, you might check your library for a copy.
