Paris & Dordogne in 8 days?

We are traveling to Paris in late May-early June for 8 full days (not including the travel days which would make 10 days). We were going to spend 5 nights in Paris and than rent a car and travel to the Dordogne for 2 nights and return to Paris for the final night at the airport. Can you tell me if this sounds reasonable? How long is the drive from Paris to Dordonga? What are the areas you recommend in Dordonga?

Appreciate your help. This site and the Rick Steve's books and videos really helped us out when we went to Italy last year so looking for the same help this year. already have the books and video and looking for your input here. Thanks all in advance for your help.

It's a hard five-hour drive from Paris to Les Eyzies -- no-stops, stay in the fast lane -- and that's if you know the way after you pass through Brive.

Les Eyzies is probably the heart of the area; it's where the national prehistory museum is.

If you could cut Paris to four nights (not that I'd recoomend doing so) it might be worth your while, otherwise skip it.

Normandy is closer, as are Burgundy and Picarde.

Save the Dordogne for another trip when you can spend a week there.

I agree with Ed. The Dordogne deserves more time ... and how can you cheat on spending a second less in Paris! Favorite things in Dordogne: Sarlat - gorgeous medieval town center (stay in Hotel Montaigne). The canoe trip passing by La Rocque-Gageac and ending in Beynac. The ca ves near Les Eyzies - Grotte du Font-du-Gaume. Maybe 4days apiece ...?

I agree with Ed and Dale. I'd choose Normandy or Burgundy over the Dordogne.

In Normandy we loved staying in Bayeux (Hotel D'Argouges is wonderful).

In Burgundy we stayed in Beaune and really enjoyed it. I recommend taking one of the two Rick Steves scenic drives.
