Paris - Dinner with a view

We will be wrapping up a month in Provence with an afternoon and evening in Paris before we return to the US the following morning. We have been to Paris before so we were thinking about being in the Montmartre area around sunset and watch the city turn from day to night. Ideally we would like to find a restaurant with seating that looks out over the city so we could enjoy our last dinner in France while feasting on the view as well as the food. Any suggestions you could pass along would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help. Steve

Others who know Paris better may correct me, but when my wife and I looked for just that, it didn't appear that any of the restaurants had a view of the city. So, we settled on one with a view of Place du Tertre and live music. The restaurant on top of the Centre Pompidou, however, has a pretty good view.

In a prior discussion of this topic (they were more into a view to include the Eiffel tower), the only one that seemed to work was the Restaurant at the Pompidou as suggested by Tom. But it is quite far ffrom the eiffel Tower. Sunset, or even late night, views i have enjoyed were from Montmartre/Sacre Couer and Trocadero (of the tower)- but not restaurants

The restaurant in the Eiffel has a tremendous view of the city. It is expensive, was very good a few years ago, and would provide a great end to your trip.

I agree with Tom. Can't picture a single place to eat that's close enough to the south edge of the butte that's high enough to not have the view blocked by buidlings. A good view, including the ET, but costing like the very devil is from the top of the Montparnasse Tower - - Ciel de Paris, or something close.

If you want to spend beaucoup bucks on a memorable meal and view, try La Tour d'Argent which has a fabulous view of Notre Dame.

The Jules Verne Restaurant in the Eiffel Tower, has a wonderful view, terrific food, and costs a pretty penny. We went this past summer and thought it was well worth the cost. Reservations are a must You can reservation online at www.lejulesverne-paris.com/. Hope you have a great time.

Thanks, Marilyn. That was the restaurant I was thinking of earlier and just drew a blank on the name. Personally I could not imagine a better setting. You do have the view and it is 360 but not within the restaurants. Do have to walk outside for the other half. Did they still have the optional fixed price menu? Again, expensive, but reasonable for all the courses.

Frank, Yes they still have the fixed price menu, but we ordered ala carte. The service was incredible. As we left the sommelier told us to come back soon- we laughed and said "of course the next time we are in Paris!"
