Are there any recommended day trips (by rail) from Paris to perhaps the quintessential small French village - that would be attractive in January? Thanks,

If it's quintessential and small, it will no longer be served by rail, but by shuttle buses or taxi from the larger town. It will also be dead as a doorknob in January. Would you go for something a bit larger but an hour from Paris like Chartres or Chantilly?
