Paris Day Trips

We have done the Dijon and Reims area. Any ideas for a day trip from Paris that would be North or East? Thanks - Bill

We liked wandering around the old fortified medieval town of Provins. It's east of Paris and an easy day trip. It's a UNESCO World Heritage site. Chartres cathedral is another easy & very interesting day trip, although it is south of Paris.

When are you going,, winter being colder and wetter does influence my suggestions.. since /I would prefer there being some more inside type attractions rather then all outside stuff in winter. Chantilly is a lovely daytrip in decent weather.. the Chateau has a great painting collection, nice gardens with a lovely cafe that serves fresh strawberry and Chantilly Cream desserts.. plus you can enjoy the Royal Horse Stables and Horse Museum. The town is smalll and easy to wander around,, mostly high end shopping though, its not a poor suburb type place. If you have a car, Pierrefonds is fun to visit also, restored medival castle in a picturesque small town right on a small lake lined with several cafes.. very nice summer daytrip.

FYI the Museum of the Horse is currently closed for renovation, and will be for the next year or so. You can still see the stables and a horse show if you wish. We really enjoyed the renovated Pierrefonds Castle (closes for an hour mid-day) and the tiny town is charming. The countryside very pretty. Senlis is an easy day trip from Paris, cute town but not a lot to do there. Auvers Sur-Oise is also an easy day trip (about half an hour by train I would guess...we drove), not as cute as Senlis but interesting if you are into Van Gogh whose grave is there.
