Hi, Is it reasonable to do a day trip to Rouen & Giverny in one day. We'll be going the middle of October. Thanks for your help.

The logistics certainly are manageable. Take the train from Paris to Vernon, departing at 08:20 and arriving at 09:05. Take the bus to Giverny. Monet's gardens open at 09:30. Spend a few hours at the gardens. Return to Vernon in time to take either the 12:49 or 13:06 train to Rouen. Explore a bit of Rouen, have dinner, and return to Paris. The last trains to Paris depart at 20:08 and 20:56. If you don't want to take the time to have a restaurant dinner in Rouen, buy food to take on the train and have a picnic. Important note: The train times I gave you are for weekdays. Check the detailed timetables on the German Rail site to see what the times are for Saturdays and/or Sundays.
