Paris + countryside in 5 days

Hi,

We will be in Paris for 5 days. We want to stay in Paris for 3 or 4 nights, and visit another place and stay there for 1 or 2 nights. Can you please provide any suggestion on which other place we can club with Paris? We are thinking of Provence. We are planning to go during end of September.

Any suggestion helps.

Thanks

Beaune. The hills should be golden with the wine grapes turning. It's easy to get to from Paris.

Paris and Provence are on opposite sides of the country, so consider transportation times when making your decision. The high speed TGV does connect these two areas, but even so, you will still spend a chunk of your day on the train. Many travelers choose Normandy, Burgundy, or the Loire valley when branching out from Paris.

We did Normandy for 2 days/ 1 night. We wented a car from Paris, drove to Omaha Beach/ War Memorial, then drove across to a chateau near Mt. St. Michel. Stayed a night there, then went to Bayeux to see the tapestry before driving back to Paris.

Mt. St. Michel at night was really nice, and not crowded. To me, that was one of the highlight of my Normandy trip.

Thanks so much for all the replies. Based on the suggestions, we have decided to skip Provence as it will be too far from Paris. This is our 1st time to France, and we want to make the most out of it, thats why, we want to spend 3 nights in Paris and 2 nights, in countryside of France.

We are not very interested in Normandy, because we are not much into seeing WWII sites. Our interests are seeing the country side of France, with some good food, and wine.. We wouldn't care much about tasting different kinds of wine, just good wine to go with our food will keep us happy, Any suggestion?

Do we have any place in France, like Tuscany in Italy?

Thanks a lot,
Vidya

Vidya, there are many possibilities so I think it may depend on the rest of your itinerary. Where will you go after your overnight in the country?

Depending on the answer to that I would not necessarily rule out Provence, by the way.

Also, if you really want to get into the countryside you will probably need to rent a car.

Thank you. Yes, we are thinking of renting a car, if needed to travel to countryside. We are debating between these places: either Beaune, Normandy area, and then take the drive Rick suggests in his book to travel back to Paris, or take train, or drive (whichever is better) to Alsace, Colmar, Strasbourg areas. We are leaving Provence for our next trip as its too far.

We can do 2 full days and nights for this, and we'll be travelling back to Paris..

Any suggestion helps..
Thanks.
