I wanted to take a cooking class while in Paris, I have only seen classes offered that look very "touristy", and pricey. Can you recommend a cooking class? Thank you
David Lebovitz (a cookbook author and food blogger) has a fairly comprehensive posting listing cooking schools in Paris. www.davidlebovitz.com/2005/11/cooking-classes-1/ If you speak French, you will find options that are geared towards locals and/or professionals. If you are looking for a class in English, then the primary audience will be tourists, the classes will be marketed to tourists, and the odds are that the cost will be high if you want a participation classes. I've taken classes at Le Cordon Bleu and Cook'n with Class in Paris. I've probably taken 2 dozen cooking classes in the last 10 years at various cooking schools. Some have been pure techniques classes (e.g. 4 hours of knife work ... not much fun, but you learn a lot) and others have been focused on preparing particular dishes (usually fun, but not as much time spent on learning a technique). The Cook'n with Class" classes were definitely in the latter category. The food prepared was delicious, they were generous with the food and wine, and the classes were fun; however this is definitely a school for amateurs (who happen to be tourists) rather than professionals. If you want to read more about my experience at these two schools, check these threads: www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/82480/traveling-to-paris-alone.html www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm/rurl/topic/65139/cordon-blue-cooking-school.html
Thank you for the information. It is very helpful.
my two daughters ( age 10 and 14) just returned from Paris. I would highly reccomend Marie. Because I had my girls who love to bake, we had Marie teach us how to make french crepes, fondant and chouquettes...soooo yummy! She is reasonably priced as well. When we returned our recipes and photos were waiting for us to try at home...can't wait! Marie Lacroix Inventive chef www.aworldinapan.com [email protected] Paris – France
