Is it appropriate to order coffee only in a cafe or must I also order food. How about in Cafe du Marche, for example, which is listed in Ric Steves' Paris 2007 in the Rue Cler section.

I have ordered only coffee at the cafe du Marche and did not feel as if I needed to order food. We nursed our cups of coffee and tea and watched the passing parade of people.

Un coffee at Du March is fine like Elizabeth stated in addition their chicken dinner was delightful and the desserts will satisfy.

It is absolutely fine to just order coffee. The French live on coffee and pastry.
