Paris is always busy, but we are thinking of going in May. I've been hunting around and having trouble trying to find out if it's busy in mid to late May. Booking air and hotel well in advance, so they won't be problem, but how busy are most attractions or areas versus September when we've been there before?
The UK has two bank holidays in May in the beginning and the end of the month expect more British people in Paris taking advantage of the long weekend. Kids are usually off too for half term in the UK so you will see families toting them along especially out to Disneyland.
There are two religious holidays in late May next year, Pentecost, which falls on the last Sunday in May. The following Monday is also a holiday. Ascension Day is ten days before Pentecost. There will probably be lots of tour buses from European countries. When I was in Paris in May last year it was packed.
Actually having been to Paris is August serveral times ( well more then serveral actually) I do not find August as busy as July. Hotels often give deals in August also.Rates then go back up for Sept.
Paris is busy year round, but, I think mid May to mid July ,, and early September to end of September are all " high season" .. add April into that also.
As noted there seem to be alot of holidays in May so be careful you don't hit either holiday crowds or closures.. I am sorry cannot tell you the actual dates, but I am sure you can find out by googling "religous holidays in May in France" and I bet you will find out!
You, know, don't obsess about the dates,, as we have all said, its always going to be somewhat busy,, go with the attitude that you aren't going to let crowds or lines get to you. I accept I may have to wait in lines( hey , no way to avoid them at the Eiffel Tower unless you have a meal there or buy a expensive tour) .. and it never bothers me when I do.
Paris is popular for a reason, go and enjoy!!
May can be interesting because there are holidays that fall during this month.
May 1st and May 8th are national holidays in France and typically the amount of museums and monuments will vary being opened. Both days are landing on a Friday which means in some cases shops may be closed through the weekend.
This also is a very busy month for the Paris to take holiday - because most companies require that your vacation time for the year be completed by the end of the month.
So - Paris will not be as busy as say June - but be aware of the holidays to help with the coordination.
Thanks, we've booked for later in May, but will be missing the last Sunday.
