Paris Bus & Metro

Apparently the Passe Navigo runs Monday to Sunday. What is the timeframe for using the “carnets” of 10 tickets?

The only destinations outside of zones 1 and 2 we will be travelling to are Versailles covered by the “Passeport” and St-Denis. Does anyone know how much it would cost to travel by Metro from downtown Paris (e.g. Hôtel-de-Ville) to St-Denis?

Thanks,

Maureen

No time limit on the carnet

St Denis - if you are going to the Basilique is in zone 2 on the metro - in fact all Metro is zone 1 - 2.

Officially, St-Denis is in zone 3. However, a t+ ticket is good anywhere the Metro goes, including the few lines that end in zone 3. OTOH, if you were to take the RER to a station in the St-Denis area, you would have to buy a ticket that includes zone 3.

Does this mean that if we were to go to St-Denis from Metro lne 1, St-Paul, we could transfer to line 13, Champs-Élysées with the Navigo (Carte Orange) with no additional cost?

We will be in Paris 6 days and will walk quite a bit, but will have to resort to public transportation occasionally when our legs give out. What is our best bet? Navigo/Carte Orange or the Carnet 10 billets?

Thanks.

Yes, like a t+ ticket, a zone 1-2 Carte Orange is good anywhere the Metro goes and provides unlimited transfers until you exit the system.

If you walk a lot, buying carnets as needed and sharing the tickets may be the most economical, especially since the new t+ tickets are good for bus transfers up to 90 minutes after boarding the first bus. (Note: Tickets bought from a bus driver don't allow for transfers.)

For a page showing all your ticket and pass choices, with links to detailed explanations of each one, go here. Then do the math and see what would be best for you.

Maureen. When you transfer from one metro line to another at a transfer point, you can do so on the same ticket. I think it would be more economical for you to use the carnet of 10 tickets and not the Navigo Découverte. I have been to St. Denis twice by metro and on one ticket only.

Maureen -

Yes you will be able to go to Saint Denis on a single ticket in each direction.

After purhcase, when does the Carte Orange become effective. It seems to me I've seen elsewhere on the net that it has a fixed start date (Sunday or Monday?) and is good for the following 6 days.

Thanks,

Maureen

The Carte Orange is good Monday-Sunday. Wednesday is the last sales day for the current week. No sales on Thursdays. If you buy one Friday-Sunday, it won't be good until Monday.
