Paris Bike Tours

Greetings!
My daughter and I will be in Paris in July. We were thinking about taking the Paris bike night tour. I was wondering if anyone had experience with “Bike about Tours” or “Fat Tire Bike Tours” and which one they would recommend. Thank you. Maria

We took the Fat Tire Bike Tour (used to be Mike's Bikes, I believe). It was great fun, biking around central Paris. It takes you past all the main sights, though no time inside - do that later. I've also talked with someone who took the Versailles bike tour with them and had a grea time. We were there off season, so Paris itself was the only option. I also strongly recommend the English language walking tours - we took 2 different walks - used to be run by the same folks as the London Walks, but I think they are no longer connected.

We did the Fat Tire Bike Tours when it was "Mike's Bikes" during the day. We enjoyed it because it was different, but it did go very fast and there were a lot of people so, unless you stay very close to the leader, you cannot hear him very well. Also, because of the large group we were in, we felt like we were on our own while cycling on the streets. You couldn't just follow the group blindly because lights change before the whole group gets across, you have to be really careful of cars doing crazy things, pedestrians, etc. The leader is at the front and there is no one to watch out for you except yourself while you're also trying to stay with the group as best you can. Days later we rented bikes from them and just went out on our own. It was much more enjoyable. We could go at our own pace, stop where and when we wanted, and didn't feel stressed to stay with the group which can be difficult in Paris traffic.

Thank you for all the posts. I think we will stick with the "Bike about Tours" seems that they have smaller groups.

Three years ago I took the Fat Tire Paris Bike Tour with my then 11 and 14 year old children. We thoroughly loved it! We went in June and although the crowd was large we were able to stay together and it was a great way to see the sights and decide which we wanted to go back to. We have done a similar tour in NY City and plan to do a bike tour this summer in both Munich and Berlin. I highly recommend the tour.

We are taking the Fat Tire Versaille tour in July. We were recommended by a friend who took it and the Paris Night tour last summer. I was apprehensive to ride a bike at night in a city, but the Versaille seemed our speed. The even have tandems for kids.

We just returned from Paris this past weekend and did both the day and evening bike tours (Fat Tire) and had a great time. We were on a time constraint, and since this was our first visit to the city, it was a great way to see many more sites without having to walk for hours. It was a great introduction to the city and gave us an idea as to what major landmarks we wanted to revisit for a more thorough tour.

I took both the day and night tours last August with my 12 year old daughter. Great fun. Parts of it are a bit harrowing in the traffic. I am taking the Versailles tour this summer.

Participated in a bike club ride from Normandy to Paris a few years back. The ride was excellent (long) but still very scenic. Anytime one can engage themselves in France via their bike I'd say GO FOR IT.

Another thought for Versailles. When my two kids and I were there a couple of years ago we just rented bikes at Versailles. It was WONDERFUL!! We rode all around and back in the back, which I had not been to before. We thoroughly enjoyed the ride...a highlight of our trip!

Update on Bike Tour

Just returned from our Paris trip and one of the highlights was our evening bike tour. Paul from "BiKe About Tours" http://www.bikeabouttours.com/index.html was wonderful. Our group had about 7 people and the bikes were great.

Maria - how long was the bike tour. My sisters and I are going next month and the night tour is definitely something we want to do. Trying to decide if we should attempt it our first evening in Paris....
