Paris - Audio guide at the Louvre

Is the audio guide at the Louvre very good?

I was disappointed by the Orsay's but enjoyed the Cluny's.

the day we were there, they were sold out at every single stand--and we stupidly forgot our iphone headphones, so we couldn't use the RS audio guide i'd downloaded! stupid us! if you have an mp3 player, i'd definitely suggest at least downloading it 'just in case'.

edit--though we did enjoy the one at the orsay, so we might just be audio guide people!

I usually get the one at the Louvre,, of course it doesn't cover everything,, or even the majority , but I do think it makes a huge difference to experience. I see alot of people with out any audio guides( or IPod etc) just wandering through galleries with glazed looks in eyes,, oblivious after awhile to what they are seeing. Bring your DL to use as a deposit. They ask for your id for security, and will take your passport, which I don't like to leave( they don't lock it up , just put it in a box ) or even bring out of hotel safe,, but I do carry my DL and they have always happily accepted that instead( assuming your DL has photo on it)
