Paris Attitudes and rental insurance

I am renting an apartment through Paris Attitudes and they have sent me a website about rental insurance. I have rented an apartment before (not through P.A.) and never had to pay for my own renters insurance. I haven't had very good luck getting emails back from P.A. so I am asking my question here. Has anyone rented through P.A. and not taken insurance? Has anyone rented apartments (from anyone) and had to purchase renters insurance?

Many thanks,

Jim

I would look for another rental agent. Sounds like a scam to me. I have rented apartments and never paid for insurance. If they dont answer your email, they must not want your business. I would not want to do business with them.

We have rented through Vacation In Paris and not had to pay renters insurance. Nor have we ever had to separately pay for insurance for any other vacation rentals we've arranged in other countries.

Hi Jim-

We just returned from Paris used Paris Attitude for our rental. I don't believe they require the rental insurance- at least I did not purchase it! They also sent me a link to an airport car service- but I did not use that either. I think those are just suggested companies to use?

I never had trouble getting emails back from them- but wonder if you are taking the time zone and work week into account. I know if I emailed them late on Thurs I did not usually hear back til Mon.
Once we booked- all contact from that point was with the apt owner.

Anyway- we had an excellent experience renting through them and I would use them again. Hope that helps!

We have rented with Vacation in Paris for next year. We had to pay a refundable security deposit and a damage waiver but no renter's insurance.

The insurance issue is confusing. I rented from PA last year and got the insurance because I did not want to run into problems upon arrival and could not get clear answers. Several of the apartment rentals we inquired about required the insurance. We could have used our homeowners insurance but our state does not have water damage coverage they say they require. Do you have contact with the owner? If so, ask him if he requires it. This year we are renting the same apartment directly from the owner, and he has not mentioned it...There were computer issues getting in touch with the insurance company...I had to keep e-mailing PA and the insurance co finally contacted me. Never quite knew what that was about. We did use the limo sevice they recommnded...The owner also recommeded it and we got the same discount. My group is 4 ladies and convenience is a big deal as is an apartment with a lift. Our biggest issue was that we were advised that we would have to put down a secuity deposit( travelers check or cash) upon arrival that was equal to our week's rent. It would be refunded upon departure if there was no damage. The owner waived it..maybe we did not look to be too rowdy. I thought PA was very professional and had not problem communicating with them...Enjoy your trip

I am currently in exactly the same position with Paris Attitude.

Mine is a long term rental so I assumed reasonable?? When the insurance agency contacted me they sent an 87 page document in french, which I couldn't read.
They apparently don't have them in English. The owner requires insurance.
I haven't signed yet.
Did you resolve yours yet? What did you do?
Thanks,
Liz

There may be some nuances there in terms of what is accepted to be a short-term vacation rental most tourists arrange( highest per-diem rates usually) versus longer-term extended stay rentals ( lower per diem rates ), which frankly start to look like normal apartment leases at some point, with all the baggage that entails. If I was renting for a week or two in lieu of a hotel I don't think I'd expect insurance to come up, and it never has for us in any of the countries we've rented in. If I were renting for a month or more I wouldnt be at all surprised to see it in the contract.
