Is there a maximum amount allowed per withdrawal in Paris? In Italy the max was €250, much less than my bank's US$500 limit. In Israel the local max seems to vary with the local bank.
I have withdrawn up to 500E at a time with no problem. Be sure to increase your limit with your home bank. 500E is around $650 US now. If your limit at home is only $500, your withdrawal will be denied.
My bank won't up the limit, even though I have lots of $$$ with them, sigh. And they take $5 a pop - maybe that's why they won't raise the ante.
Be safe and call your bank and ask before you. You need to tell them you are going to be using your ATM card in a foreign country so they don't close your account to prevent fraud. That has happened to some travelers.
Thanks, Carl. I always do that, also credit cards. Good advice to all travelers.
Different ATMs will have different withdrawal limits which have nothing to do with your bank's limit. They may do it to conserve cash. I've had the best luck with ATMs that are physically attached to, or inside of, a bank. And, though I've never had trouble, I try to make withdrawals when the bank is open in case the machine swallows my card. Again, it's never happened.
