Several travelers recommended services located in the US for procurring an apartment in Paris - I lost the information - anyone know of a good service? Which parts of Paris would be best for a week long stay? Thanks
Never stayed in Paris but have used a firm called Absolute Accommodations for UK flats and have been very pleased with the units and the service. Very good website at "absoluteaccommodations.com". They have many units in Paris on their website. They are not cheap but have good locations and nice units. Good luck
I've used vacationinparis.com and have been pleased with their service. I rented #115 in the Marais in 2009 and am using them again (but for a different apartment) in the spring. You can pay with credit card via paypal. I particularly like the Marais (4th arr), but have stayed in the 5th and 7th on previous stays and been happy; it is hard to go wrong in Paris.
I have used a company called vacation rental by owner (www.vrbo.com) and had a wonderful apartment in the Latin Quarter area. http://www.vrbo.com/116297
I have successfully used www.rentalfrance.com Excellent company and good communication. My vote would be for the Marais area - we stayed here for 6 weeks and loved every moment. Easy access to all sights and wonderful eateries, shops, patisseries etc
Happy travels.
I have booked two apartments in Paris, both in the Latin Quarter (5th arrondisment). I booked both on vrbo.com. One apartment is owned by someone in the U.S. and I paid USD. I have not stayed in the second place yet, but I am dealing with someone in Paris. I have to say that it was easier paying the dollars here. I had to wire transfer my deposit to Paris for my upcoming trip, and even though I did it on 1/3 they have still not received my funds. Of course the funds left my account quickly. I like the Latin Quarter better than the Rue Cler area (7th arrondisment), where I stayed in a hotel. Nothing wrong with that area, I just think it is not as well located. The Marais would also be a good, central area. If you would like specific information about my apartment rentals you can PM me for details.
While I cannot vouch for it (yet), I did similar research a few months back and decided on Paris Best Lodge(http://www.parisbestlodge.com) based on reviews I found here and elsewhere (TripAdvisor). In addition to the rave reviews, it appealed to me because there were several properties to choose from with a single contact (though I still inquired at some VRBO/Homeaway type places) who was also in Paris should anything go awry. I chose Marais, but have heard good things about Rue Cler, St Germain and the Latin Qtr. If it's in your budget, there's an amazing place overlooking Notre Dame in St Germain listed at Parisbestlodge, FYI Have Fun
We have used www.holidays-France-Rentals.com several times. We have found Bernard and his staff very reliable. He has many apartments in Paris, and also houses to rent in the rest of France. We will be using them again in May, both in Paris and the south of France. We would highly recommend HFR. Doris

Vacation in Paris is fantastic. Most times you get the keys before you leave home, you pay in us dollars and there is a manual in the apt. Telling you how things work.
We also have used vacationinparis and really like the company and their service. They are based in New Jersey. On this board you'll see lots of recommendations for places to stay, but we like the seventh for its proximity to all the major sites and for its more quiet atmosphere at night. The important thing is to be near a good metro stop. Any apartments you look for will tell you which metro stop they are closest to. I'd pull up a metro map of Paris and check out how long a walk you'll have to a metro stop. See if that metro line conveniently takes you to the things you want to see, and also googlemap the address of the apartment and walk around the neighborhood at street level. Unless you go way out into some sketchy suburb, you are going to be fine in any of the arrondisements.
I have booked with Vacation in Paris twice and they were great.
I have found that Vacation in Paris to be great for talking me through deciding between apartments, as well- once I had looked at everything else- I gave the agent specifics about our family and trip, and she was great about giving her opinion about which apartment was more suitable for us.
Thanks for all the good information!
