Paris apartment rentals for a week

My wife and I are planning a December trip to Paris and would like to rent an apartment for a week (it will be before xmas week). We'd appreciate recommendations for quiet (sleep friendly) relatively inexpensive places (less than 900 e) with a kitchen. Studio or 1 bedroom is fine. A good location is a plus, esp convenient to the Metro.
We've been to Paris, but haven't rented an apt. What are the standard start and end days? Are these generally flexible? Given Europe's weak economy, is the price negotiable? Thanks in advance for your suggestions and advice.

Dave,
We rented two apartments in Paris last month and would recommend both. VRBO 59569 is on St Martin, a block from Pompidou. A 32 m. studio with a good sized kitchen. Owner is American, provides detailed directions on everything. Dozens of five star recommendations on the site. HomeAway 855698 is just east of Ecole Militare at the south end of the Champ de Mars. It's a one bedroom with a smaller kitchen, also listed at 32 m. Owner is French, speaks good English. There weren't fixed start / end days; in fact, we began mid-week for both. Both were less than your price point, and we felt they were fairly priced. Very convenient metros. More info....contact me.

We have rented this apartment multiple times for a total of two and a half months in the last five years and highly recommend it.

I use vrbo.com and homeaway.com for apartment rentals.

We stayed in this one a couple of years ago:
http://www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p310989. It's listed at 900 dollars a week in the first half of December, 1150 dollars a week in the second half. It was quiet, third-floor (US definition) walk-up (39 steps), a couple of blocks from the Pernety metro stop in Montparnasse, off rue Raymond Losserand with lots of stores and eating places. We never met the owner but he was easy to deal with and left lots of information in the place. When we had a bathtub drain problem the cleaner came over right away and showed us how to empty the tub (duhhh). We stayed there in April and the heat was more than adequate, don't know how it would be in December. Start and end dates were flexible, as I think they usually are with these rentals. I don't know about price negotiability but my guess would be that prices will be firm unless it's still vacant shortly before your time but then you'll have high anxiety about where you'll be sleeping!

Dave - I would also recommend vacationinparis.com. The thing I liked about them is that they are based in the US and we had the key before departing on our trip.

I've rented several apartments so will volunteer a couple of general tips for the newbies. First, understand the difference between the on-line rental agencies. Most act in some sort of managerial relationship, dealing with clients on behalf of the owners. Several, such as VRBO/Homeaway, serve as go-betweens, puting the customer in touch with the landlord and then leaving them to do their own deals. The former give you a paid rep to go back to if something needs fixing. But an agency fee is included in the rent. Landlords handling their own rentals can be more personal, but such necessities as getting the keys may also be more personal and quirky, especially if the owner lives elsewhere, such as on another continent. Second, think about how the deposit (which can be substantial) must be paid. It could be by bank transfer, cheque, PayPal, or credit card. The last two situations are the easiest because they are so routine and require no personal correspondence.
Third, and a big deal in Paris, check out what floor the flat is on. Climbing up five flights of stairs without an elevator adds something extra to the vacation.

Dave, we just returned from France. While in Paris, we stayed at "My Little Home in Paris." It was fantastic! The owners were extremely helpful, it was quiet, and it was in a great location. Here's the website: www.vrbo.com/151604 It's small; you pull out the bed each night. There was a kitchen and the owners supplied breakfast foods and even a bottle of wine. Metro is very close. A computer is provided and free use of international phone. We couldn't have been happier!

We just got back from Paris and stayed at a lovely, affordable studio apartment on Ile St. Louis. We used Cobblestone Paris (www.cobblestoneparis.com). We found them before they were recommended in Rick Steves 2012....so they may now book up more quickly. We loved our apartment and had an excellent experience.

Another vote for Vacation in Paris! They're helpful, respond quickly to questions (and I always have a lot), things are exactly as shown/described online, etc. I've stayed in 1 and 2 bedroom apts in the 7th, 8th and 10th Arr, but they have all sizes, all prices, located all over Paris. Check them out! (and, no, I don't work for them)

I used airbnb.com to rent an apartment for 5 days in the 19th arrondissement near the Parc de la Villette. It was a subway ride out of the city center, but I was right near a metro stop, in a quiet residential neighborhood, got a good rate, and had a very positive experience. I recommend the site-- I'm not affiliated with it at all and have had positive experiences in otherwise expensive cities like Paris.

Dave we rented our roomy and bright one bedroom thru Homelidays.com (#68359) for 90 EU/nite. It was a very quiet apt, on the second floor, in a residential neighborhood at the top of the 15th, within two blocks of one of the Metro stops, and 4 blocks from another. If we leaned out the window, LOL, we could see the Eiffel tower; in fact, we walked to the Tower and to the Rue Claire neighborhood. There were lots of local restaurants, coffee shops, grocers, bakeries, etc nearby. When booking any apartment, make sure that you follow up your $$$ agreement Email's with a phone call. VRBO and Homeaway told us that some people have been "stealing" EMail contact info, and posing as the real owners. A quick call to the listed number in the add is always a good way to verify.
