Does anyone have a recommendation for a Paris apartment for 5 nights next June in the Rue de Cler area?
While not a specific apartment recommendation, I do recommend the company Vacations in Paris. They have a bunch around the city, including in the Rue Cler area. I've rented with them in 2010 and am renting another spot this fall. Easy to deal with, and easy and clear rates, in USD.
Also check vrbo.com and homeaway.com for rentals. You can narrow your search by arrondissement. Check the 7th, which includes the Rue Cler area. Just curious, why Rue Cler? Have you been to Paris before?
Never been to Paris before. Rick Steves is very high on Rue de Cler, and it looks very nice.
Yes, Rick really likes the Rue Cler area and many of his readers/followers stay there for that very reason. I was one of those people on my first trip. It is a very nice area. My only complaint that it isn't very convenient to most of the tourist destinations, except the Eiffel Tower. You can go to Rue Cler and see it in an hour max. Why be stuck there unless you are looking for a really quiet area. It was dead on the Sunday we were there. I decided I prefer a more central location. I have since rented 2 apartments in Paris, both in the Latin Quarter. In my opinion the 4th, 5th & 6th arrondissements, staying closer to the river, are better for walking to many locations. If you would like apartment info in the 5th, send me a PM. I hope you enjoy Paris. It's my favorite city!
I totally agree with Andrea. I like the 4th, 5th and 6th best. I like being near Notre Dame, the river and in the "heart" of Paris. What I dislike most about rue Cler is that it's full of Americans b/c they follow Rick's guidebook. When I'm in Paris I don't want to be surrounded by fellow Americans. I'm not saying there aren't Americans all over Paris - before someone else points this out - but there is a disproportionate amount in the rue Cler neighborhood. Also try Parisbestlodge.com
I appreciate the response to my request. I will take a look at the recommendations. One of the reasons for looking at apartments was keeping the costs down, we do not plan to cook or stay in the apartment other than to sleep, so looking for the best deal/location.
The best deal may not be in the best location. You can pay less being further from the center, but then you will spend time and money getting from that outlying location to the center.
Andrea makes another good point. I enjoy staying in an apt and I enjoy hotels, both for different reasons. I've rented two apts in Paris. One bonus of an apt is that they usually have a washing machine. For me, that's a huge perk.
I agree completely about staying away from the Rue Cler area. It's a nice visit but the other arrondissements feel more like what I expected Paris to feel like. Check put TripAdvisor...you can view hotels in all areas and get good feedback on them while comparing prices/locations etc. Paris is divine! Enjoy!!!
Thank you all for your input. We booked an apartment with Vacations in Paris. Staying near rue Montorgueil markets.
