What is cost of taxi from CDG to 9th arrondissement? What airport shuttle is recommended?
I vote for the RER. The only problem we had with it was that when we attempted to exit at Point d'Alma (i think) we had luggage and the little station was unmanned so the only way to get our luggage out was to lift it up and over the exit stall.
I'm sure there's a better way that I just don't know about, but I would sure be interested in knowing the correct way to exit with luggage.
Can you explain "RER"? What is it, how do you find this transportation at the airport, etc?
I'm not sure about the cost of a taxi ride to 9e, but I know that taxi cabs are the most expensive transportation method from the airport. I'm visiting Paris in the spring and I intend to use a shuttle bus for 19 euros each way. Copy and paste this site http://airport-paris-transfer.com/
Since the 9eme is north of the city center, a taxi should cost around 40€ (more if traffic is heavy since the meter will be running).
The fare for one person in a shared shuttle starts at around 24€.
If you're packing light, why not take the RER? A single ticket, which includes transfers to the Metro which will get you to within a few blocks of any hotel, costs 8.20€.
The RER is the suburban train network. RER lines have fewer stations in Paris than do Metro lines, but you can easily transfer between them at stations which have both RER and Metro lines. There are two RER stations at CDG: CDG 1 and CDG 2 TGV. The first one is next to Terminal 3 and is close to Terminal 1. The second one is beneath Terminal 2. All are linked by the free 24/7 CDGVAL driverless shuttle train. See www.easycdg.com for more information.
Go to www.ratp.fr to download and print a Metro/RER map for central Paris and a RER map that shows service to outlying zones, including CDG.
Golden Air Shuttle from CDG is listed in Rick's Paris guidebook. I have used them twice with good results. If you book online and select "Rick Steves' as how you heard of them, the cost is 35 Euros instead of 39.
You have to book ahead of time, and call them when you arrive at the airport. It works OK.
In 2005 I booked a shuttle when I booked my flight. It was on time both ways and took me right to my hotel. Well worth it, as a no hassel set price, I booked thru Expedia. =BILL
A taxi to the 9th will likely run higher then 40 euros, and depending on traffic, time of day( they charge more at night ) and luggage,( one euro per bag is a charge, non optional) can easily top 60 euros.
A good idea is to go on your hotels website, many hotels list how to get to them using which metro stations etc.
The RER is a suburban train line that runs mostly above ground and out of city, the metro is more like a subway, runs primarily underground and within the city .
You take the RER into city, then transfer to the subway( metro) to get exactly where you want to go as the RER has of course fewer stops in city.
Another vote for Golden Air.
We used them last July to go to from CDG to the 7th and back.
No issues at all. In fact on the return they were waiting for us in the hotel lobby b4 our 7:30 departure. We made one stop on the way & still had us at the airport in a hour.
Regarding traveling to/from CDG, there are two of us and we aren't interested in hauling luggage up/down stairs of the metro so we have eliminated the RER option. Has anyone used Paris Blue airport shuttle?
A taxi from Central Paris to CDG will run you between 35 and 50 euros depending on traffic. I've never taken a shuttle so can't help you there.
Roissy bus to connect to metro is also a good (quick/inexpensive) option. If you have too much baggage for the metro, then kindly disregard the suggestion.
I just got back yesterday and agree with Chris, the Roissy bus is a good option. We took the bus, I think it was 8,50, then picked up a cab at the Opera, where the Roissy bus drops you off. We were staying in the Rue Cler area and the cab cost a little over 8 Euro. My friend packed WAY too much even though I told her not to. We took a cab back to the airport and the cabby gave me a tip that I guess is true, or maybe a scam, but he said if you have the hotel call a cab, which we did, it was 5 Euro extra. He said if you hail a cab on the street, you do not pay the extra 5 Euro. At any rate, it cost us 41 Euro to get to the airport by cab from the Rue Cler.
I would have taken the RER or the Roissy bus/Metro combo, but my friend was so loaded down with luggage that the RER and Metro were not options. She vowed she would never overpack again.
Sherry, what the cab driver told you is true. It is not a scam, just the rule for all taxi companies.
since the taxi driver told you a way to save money why assume that is a "scam," that was an ouch!
It is absolutely true, and for your information it can be more then a 5 euro savings.
When you have a taxi called for you , the taxi puts his meter on WHEREVER he is when HE receivces the call. So the taxi driver can arrive with more then 5 euros on his meter...
Taxi stands are great, but , on the other hand if one needs an early taxi who wants to go and find one at 5 am and stand out in the dark, LOL
