We are considering a shuttle (~$52 for 2 one way) from Paris,CDG to take us directly to/from our Hotel, the Lenox Montparnasse. Is this advisable? With luggage metro may be cumbersome if we have to change trains. Any recommendations?
That's a reasonable rate compared to a taxi to Montparnasse. But if you only have one bag, you can easily take the RER B to Denfert Rochereau and transfer to either the Metro 4 or 6 to Montparnasse.
Public transport is a lot cheaper but you'll be on your own to figure out the transfers and have more stairs, etc.
Judy,
The Metro with luggage can really be a pain.
We used Golden Air to Hotel Muguet, last month. If I recall it was something like 72 Euros roundtrip for 2
No problem, you can look for my recent post

Golden Air......after reading a few comments on this site I was a bit concerned that we did not hear back from them with the details of our reservation until the morning we left. However, when we arrived at CDG and picked up our luggage then called, they promply met us in 15 min at the designated spot. Upon our return, they were waiting for us in the Hotel lobby b4 our 7:30 departure time & had us at CDG in 60 minutes No problems at all, would use them again.

If you don't wnat to schlep your lugage on the RER & Metro, you could take Air France bus #4 directly to Gare Montparnasse (one stop at Gare de Lyon) and a taxi from there. Buses run every 30 minutes and the fare is €14.
As others have said. The amount of luggage you have is the key. If you followed Steve's advise and only have one small bag, take the RER. My wife and I traveled for 11 days with one carry-on bag each and a small backpack each. Another point might be your familiarity with the Metro. If this is you first trip it can be confusing to begin with. Once you do a trip you will find it to be pretty easy. But hauling big bags will add to that first-time stress.
Plus the turnstyle entries are not all that wide.
The amount of luggage that you have will affect which method to use - small carry-on bag, take the RER and Metro, lots of luggage, take a shuttle booked ahead online. You will need to call as soon as you arrive at baggage claim and be prepared to wait about 30 minutes. I have used both Golden Air and Paris Shuttle, do a Google search for other shuttle companies. Takes about 1 hr. to get your hotel.
In July, I had my wheeled carry-on bag, purse and computer tote bag, so I took the Roissy Bus, which cost 8.10 Euro one way - I bought my ticket at the machine but ticket can be bought from bus driver. It took me to the Opera Garnier area, where you then have the option of taking the Metro, a bus or I just went to the taxi stand and took a taxi to my hotel Saint Louis Bastille near the Republique opera stop for 8 Euro.
There is another bus that goes to Gare de Nord then take a taxi from there, not sure of the amount to your hotel, but very likely cheaper than the shuttle.
I always ned to arrive and depart calmly without shagging my bags. I use Parishuttle and have never had a problem with reliability. They are on time, have and English speaking number to call and are efficient.
I also took Roissey bus from Opera Garnier. Leaves on regular schedule and you can get ticket on bus. I walked the 5 blocks from my hotel with rolling suitcase and carry on bag at 6 a.m.
Also took it when I arrived at CDG to Opera.
You definately don't want the Metro with luggage. We took a shuttle; allow extra time on return, ours was late and then stopped for others. We plan on a taxi next time...I've read several places it's 50 euros for up to 3 passengers (one way) CDG to Paris, which is more expensive for 2 people, but no extra stops along the way.
