Paris Accommondations - Recommendations?

I will be in Paris for two nights at the beginning of September and for two nights (or so) again at the very beginning of October with my partner.
We are looking for accommodations that are affordable and in a decent location to get to the usual things that tourists want to do, along with the train station.
Recommendations to us so far have been MIJE hostel or Hotel de Blois - reviews? Any suggestions for us?

Hello MD - I can highly recommend Hotel Apollon Montparnasse. This is a 2 star Hotel so the room was a bit small - but we had a large bathroom, it was very clean, comfortable and the staff were wonderful. In a good location - metro just down at the end of the block. The big plus is that it's not in the touristy area - so you are mingling with the locals. Check it out on TripAdvisor.

I like Le Sevigne. It is very close to the Jeanne d'Arc recommended above with about the same rates. There is AC, which doesn't appear on the Jeanne d'Arc website, but perhaps they have it. Early Sept - you might need it. Either one, great location.

I agree that the Marais would be a great neighborhood to stay in--we were there in June and stayed at Hotel Jeanne d'Arc. It's basic, rooms are small but the location is a plus. Chani is correct in pointing out that the hotel does not have air conditioning--it wasn't a problem in early June and they do provide fans.

From our five trips there, most affordable/decent has been Le Regent, on Rue Dauphine, just down from the Pont Neuf on Left Bank. Great, cool neighborhood and we have rarely used the Metro as you can walk everywhere. It's a three star, clean, small, not glamorous but we feel it fits the bill. Lots of restaurants nearby and you can eat at the hote (extra) or walk out the front door to a bakery.

Yes Marie, Le Regent is a nice hotel,( I have stayed there also,) but at over 140 euros to 200 euros a night,, many would not consider it a budget choice! LOL It does have a great location though,, and I loved the bathroom!

MD,, when requesting help with hotels one really should state their actual budget range,,( in euros) since the term "affordable" means many things to many people!!

For the dates you are looking for you may encounter problems getting any deals,, September in particular is a very busy and popular month MD.

For a room under 100 euros look at Hotel Saint Pierre, rooms are tiny,, I mean tiny, but very clean and location is primo.

Hotel Diana is also very well located,, and hovers just under 100 euros too I think.

We are looking for something around 100 Euro a night (less is always better, but Paris is expensive and we don't really want to sleep in a barn, so quality trumps price here). We'd also like something that is centrally located, walking distance to Notre Dame etc.

I hate to share this through selfishness but...

I use the Hotel de la porte doree. Its run by a french/american couple rates can be as low ans 48 euro a night. Its a very nice little hotel. The owners and staff are wonderful.

Its 2 blocks from the zoo, and across the street from a boulongerie rated as one of the top ten in paris. the metro is 50 feet away

But don't tell anyone, I don't want it to get too crowded.

Forgive me, but I have a question and I didn't want to start another thread since this one is about Paris accomodations and my question is pretty general.

Are there bed and breakfasts in Paris? I tried researching on the internet and only found websites of what seemed to be companies who just find a room for you to stay in in someone's - ANYONE'S home in Paris. This seems scary to me. In Britain, I've always dealt with the people who run the b&b when making the reservation. Yes, I know whenever you make a reservation to stay in someone's home, you are taking a chance. However, this Parisian "middleman" way of doing this could easily mean that I could get switched from one home to another. It made me think of some of the stories I've read here where people have made a reservation thinking they'd be staying in one hotel but then get shuffled to another, which ends up being a dump and in a bad neighborhood.

Has anyone here used any of these b&b "middleman" companies?
