Paris, 2 or 3 days?

I'm getting ready to book our hotel and am trying to decide what to see and whether to stay 2 or 3 days. I'm thinking 2 days is not going to be long enough with lines to get in and walking/taking the metro to each stop. We'll probably stay in Marais district and want to see Notre-Dame, Catacombes, Musee d Orsay, the Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Arc de Triomphe and Luxembourg Garden. I was planning on seeing the Eiffel tower at night. Possibly adding La Tour Montparnasse.

I've only been to Paris once, about 20 years ago on a bus tour, so I don't really know how far each of these places are from one another or how difficult it will be to see all of them in two days.

Not interested this time in seeing anything else and we're not staying longer than 3 days. I know a lot of people love Paris but I'm not really one of them. Going only because my daughter and a friend want to see it.

Oh, I forgot to mention, we also will probably take a short cruise on the Seine river.

I don't think you can do all that in two days. I could see how you might in theory, if you had two full days and only ate on the run. But it would be hard in practice.

Please stay 3 days!! as long as you can. I think your daughters will thank you for it.

Thanks, that's what I was thinking. Now, I'm second-guessing myself about staying in the Marais district...I've been looking near Rue Cler and wondering if it would be closer more convenient? Some of the hotels are cheaper than the one I was looking at also.

I have never stayed less then 8 or 9 days, and that was too short, and that is with me visiting many times before... so you questions answer from me is ,, stay neither two nor three days, but at least FIVE! LOL

Kathleen -

About where to stay - boy, doesn't that post come up quite a bit! We too are going to Paris with our kids and after a TON of research, etc. we narrowed it down to the Marais or near the Eiffel. In theory, the 7th district looked like a better location, however, in looking at the metro lines, etc. I thought the Marais for us would be better only because there are so many metro lines to choose from. The 7th appeared to be a bit more limited.

Take a look at the busses, metro, etc and that will help you determine which is better, if either - seems the metro can zip you across town so fast that the location of your hotel/apartment isn't too much an issue.

Have a great trip

I have stayed in both neighborhoods. Both are great and, thanks to the Metro, convenient.

Nothing in Paris is far from the metro. You might find other things that spark your interest and a 3 day metro and museum pass (although maybe not cheaper) is a real convenience and time saver. You might also enjoy Pere Lachaise Cemetery, Galeries Lafayette, or just getting lost. Your never far if you have a metro pass. We just got back from Paris and you can see our pictures at our blog:
