I will be in Paris for 2 1/2 days week of Thanksgiving. I have been there before, my husband hasn't been so i know my two day itinerary will involve going to the must see sights of Paris. Aside from the sights we want to do a kind of food tour around Paris (best patisserie, cheese shop, market, places to eat, etc.). Need suggestions to create my food itinerary of Paris.
I don't know if it's the best but Gerard Mulot, 76 rue de Seine, was near our rented apartment this summer and the bread, pastries, and prepared foods were pretty wonderful. I also loved the Sunday morning organic market at Boulevard Raspail.
If you want the really famous food destinations in Paris, two of the most traditional are Fauchon (all kinds of food, 24-6 place de la Madeleine) and Laduree (patisserie, especially macaroons). If you go to Laduree go to the original store at 16 rue Royale, the branch on the Champs-Elysees is, well not a tourist trap because the products are still worth it, but is constantly overcrowded and not a nice experience. But if macaroons are in question I prefer Pierre Herme, at various locations including 72 rue Bonaparte and 185 rue Vaugirard. There are lots of good chocolate places in Paris, but my favourites are Richart at 258 boulevard St Germain, which has an atmosphere and packaging more like a high-class cosmetics place, and Jacques Genin, which is a bit out of the way at 133 rue de Turenne but has some really fantastic products.
Restaurant La Gare, in an old train station, with it's perfect outside heated bar. Has a prix fixe which is delish.
