Hi, I've found an aparment rental in Montemarte and was wondering if the neighborhood is safe. I used to live in Chicago so the occasional hooker and pan-handler won't bother me but I want to make sure we won't get mugged and that it is safe after dark. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!
Ashley
I would definitely avoid Pigalle after dark, and though I think other areas might be safer, you just need to practice common sense and safe habits. Be aware of your surroundings; don't be careless with your belongings; ... all those things you learned years ago. It will probably be safer if you are not out walking alone.
I'll be with my boyfriend so I won't be wandering alone or anything. The apartment is at rue Berthe 75018 Paris and about a 5 minute walk to Sacre Coeur.
Anyone know where "pigalle" is? I'm sure we'd avoid that area if at all possible.
Thanks!
Ashley
My group of 4 walked around Montmartre near Sacre Coeur after 10 at night, and didn't see anything odd or unsafe. But yes, avoid Pigalle.
Ashley, Pigalle is just a little south west of where you'll be but easy to avoid. (It's straight down the road from the Anvers Metro stop, which you will probably use). You'll know you're there when you seen giant stores called "Sexodrome" and the like. It's easy to enjoy Montmartre without going to Pigalle but during the day Pigalle is not dangerous (although your boyfriend may be propositioned).
